John Hughes shown in the first Kärntner Derby this season, as the veteran led EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV to a 4-2 home win over EC-KAC with two goals and two assists. The 35-year-old was involved in all of the “Adler” goals and advanced to win2day's top performer in Round 7.

The first Kärntner Derby of the new season in the win2day ICE Hockey League offered almost over the complete 60 minutes of play great hockey, with a lot of speed, action and emotion. In the end, the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV took the win, after four recent home defeats against Klagenfurt. John Hughes was mainly responsible for the victory, as the veteran provided Villach's lead after just 91 seconds, then gave the primary assist on each of the following two power play goals. Two and a half minutes left in the game Hughes then brought about the preliminary decision with his second goal.

With those four points, he nearly doubled his season output, holding to three goals and six assists after seven games. This also makes Hughes the highest-scoring player for Villach.
