The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers will play their first game in the Alps Hockey League on Saturday. While it is a new era for the league newcomer, teams already established in this league - Kitzbühel, Bregenzerwald and Lustenau - will make their season debut. Meanwhile, HC Merano/o enters its second season, facing the KAC Future Team, who ist already playing its third game this season.

The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers will start their first season in the Alps Hockey League on Saturday. But the champion of the IHL will have to deal with one of the strongest teams already in the opener. The HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice dominated the basic round in the preseason and only had to admit defeat in the final against champion Asiago. In the first game of the current season, the Slovenians also recorded a commanding 4:0 victory over S.G. Cortina Hafro. Unterland, however, proved just ten days ago that they are absolutely to be reckoned with when they lost only 3:4 after overtime against ICE Team Asiago in the Supercup.

With the Steinbach Steel Wings Linz and the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan two teams meet on Saturday, which started the league without points. Both teams had to fight among other things also with their chance utilization. The Steel Wings have never been able to win against the Broncos. However, in their last encounter - last year in December - the young Austrians were able to claim a point for the first time in this duel.

In Zell am See, two teams meet, each of which has a victory in the opener. EK Die Zeller Eisbären dispatched EC-KAC Future Team 5-2, while Rittner Buam won 4-2 away at Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. The Austrians last finished their first two games victorious in the 18/19 season. The "Buam" were successful in the first three games in the preseason. The South Tyroleans convinced in Sterzing especially with their special teams: they scored two powerplay goals and did not concede a goal in numerical inferiority. The last two comparisons of these teams in Salzburg went to the home team, which must do without Laurin Müller this time. Ritten is missing Alex Frei in this match.

In the recent past, however, Bregenzerwald usually had the upper hand - they won five of the last six encounters.

Lustenau was defeated by the EK Zeller Eisbären in the quarterfinals last season. In the preseason, however, the Vorarlbergers showed up again and again and are now eager for the start of the season. In the preseason the teams faced each other twice, both duels went to the team of head coach Giorgio De Bettin. In the Alps Hockey League, however, Val Gardena won the last two games in Cortina.
