Alberto Colli was called up for the Italian national team for the second time last week. In two test matches against Hungary, the Azzurri first lost 1:2/SO and then won 3:0 the following day. It was a great honor for the 21-year-old Colli to be nominated for the national team again: “It was an incredible feeling of pride and excitement. Being called up to represent Italy again is always an honor. There’s a deep sense of responsibility wearing the Azzurri jersey, and it motivates me to push myself even harder, both on and off the ice. It's a privilege to be part of such a prestigious team.”

The test matches against Hungary served as preparation for upcoming pressing engagements starting with the World Championship in Romania. For Colli, both games provided important insights for the future. “The test matches against Hungary were a great opportunity for the team to gauge our current level and identify areas to improve, said Colli. “They were tough games, but we learned a lot about our strengths and weaknesses. It was also a chance to bond as a group, and I think the team came together well. The intensity of those games will help us as we continue to prepare for upcoming challenges.”

At the age of 21, the defender is one of the youngest players in the team, which is a special challenge for him, but also an honor. “Being one of the youngest members definitely pushes me to improve and grow as a player. It gives me extra confidence because I know that the more experienced players see potential in me.” He is particularly impressed by the experience and leadership quality of his older team colleagues: “From them, I learn not just about technical skills but also how to approach the game mentally, how to stay focused, and how to handle the pressures of international competition. Their leadership on and off the ice is something I truly value.”

Colli also plays an important role at his club, S.G. Cortina Hafro. He has been part of the club since his youth. He is satisfied with how the season has gone so far - Cortina is currently in fifth place in the table - but remains self-critical. “So far, I’m happy with how the season is going. As a team, we’ve had some strong performances, but there’s always room for improvement. Personally, I feel like I’m growing as a player, especially when it comes to understanding the tactical side of the game and becoming more consistent in my performance. There’s a good energy around the team, and I’m excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds.”

The dream of winning the AHL title with his home club is what drives Colli in particular, especially after the two painful defeats in the finals in recent years. “The two finals defeats in the past years still sting, but they've also motivated me to work harder and not take anything for granted. Those experiences have taught us resilience and the importance of staying focused, no matter the situation”, says Colli resolutely.

His optimism about winning the championship this season is unbroken. “I’m very optimistic. The team is in great form, and we’re focused on building momentum. We’ve got the right mix of experienced players and young talent, and everyone is committed to giving their best every game. If we continue to work hard and stay disciplined, I believe we can make it to the final again and, this time, come out on top.”

Alberto Colli has clear personal goals not only for this season, but also for the coming years: “My personal goals are to continue developing my game, both technically and mentally. I want to become a more complete player, contribute consistently to the team’s success, and eventually be a key player for the national team on the international stage.

Cortina is back in action in the Alps Hockey League this Thursday. They host the Rittner Buam SkyAlps in the top game. Watch the final rematch live on www.valcome.tv from 20:30.
