The Rittner Buam SkyAlps will launch the AHL anniversary season with a home game (6:00 p.m.) against HC Asiago – a traditional derby between two of Italy’s most successful hockey locations. Over the previous nine AHL seasons, teams from Klobenstein and Asiago each captured the title twice. Their most recent meeting came during preseason, when the team of head coach Dave MacQueen claimed a 4:3 win.

At 7:00 p.m., the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers face off against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. Last season, the Broncos from Sterzing won the last two meetings between these sides. At 7:15 p.m., Red Bull Hockey Juniors and KHL Sisak will start their new campaigns. In their three previous encounters, the away team always came out on top.

At 7:30 p.m., two more clashes are scheduled: Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel host HC Gherdëina – both teams celebrated four preseason victories. At the same time, the final rematch takes center stage: EK Zeller Eisbären enter the anniversary season as the defending team to beat. While they failed to claim a win in preseason, strong opposition means the club remains unfazed. Their first league opponent is a major test: Jesenice, led by experienced coach Nik Zupancic, will be looking to start strong. The stage is set for another high-quality matchup.

Sunday game rounds off opening weekend
On Sunday, HC Meran/o Pircher welcome S.G. Cortina Hafro to close out the first weekend. The South Tyrolean side managed to win just one of five preseason games, while Cortina triumphed in three out of four. Recent history also favors Cortina: four of the last five direct duels were decided by just one goal – each time in their favor.
