Asiago scores three shorthanded goals in home win over Gherdeina

In the only game of the day, HC Migross Asiago celebrated a 5–1 home victory over HC Gherdeina valgardena.it. For the league returnee, it was the third consecutive win, while Gherdeina’s struggles continue – the South Tyrolean team has won only one of its last seven games. Impressive: Asiago scored three shorthanded goals in the match. The Alps Hockey League continues tomorrow, Wednesday, with the matchup between EC Bregenzerwald and EK Die Zeller Eisbären.

Asiago was the dominant team right from the start and took the lead in the 18th minute through Ryan Valentini. The newcomer, who played for Innsbruck in the win2day ICE Hockey League last season, also made it 2–0 in the 23rd minute. It was the forward’s first brace of the season, extending his goal-scoring streak to four games. Just 30 seconds after the 2–0, the guests had the chance to scoretheir with a penalty shot, but Sacha Guimond was denied by Asiago goaltender Rudy Rigoni.

The final period turned wild: Gherdeina pulled one back only 26 seconds after the restart, but then conceded three shorthanded goals within the next 13 minutes. Nicholas Porco scored twice while short-handed, and Lucas Chiodo also found the net in numerical disadvantage to seal the victory. With this win, Asiago climbs to sixth place in the standings, while Gherdeina remains in ninth.
