Asiago ties final series with home win

Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey won game two of Sky Alps Hockey League finals against Rittner Buam on Monday. Asiago took the lead three times and finally celebrated a well-deserved 4:2 home win. It was the first victory for Tom Barrasso’s side in the seventh season meeting. The third game of the series takes place in Ritten on Wednesday.

The game started with a lot of intensity. In first action the both team built one chance for each with Dan Tudin and Federico Benetti. The game was played action after action without any break. After six minutes, there was a dangerous situation for Ritten. A very fast descent of Anthony Nigro was stopped with a penalty against the guests. During the powerplay for home team, Giulio Scandella found a perfect assist fo Andreas Lutz who hit the crossbar with a diagonal shot. Asiago grow up minutes after minutes and in the middle, it was a first goal of home team. Killeen couldn’t control completely the conclusion of Anthony Nigro. Lutz, in front of the slot, was ready to touch the puck between the leg of goalie opponent. The Ritten tried to answer but his pressure lasted a couple of changes. The Asiago, however, continued to push as they built a lot of chance near the slot of opponents. When missing 5 minutes to the end of the period Giulio Scandella became a problem because Killeen was caught out of position as he forced to stop the puck to avoid problems in the scrum. Shortly after Kolanos missed a very big opportunity. In the same time, Asiago lost Josè Magnabosco for injury. After 18 minutes Killeen made two spectacular saved. Asiago took the lead after the first period of the match (1:0). Asiago decided to continue the attitude of the first with a lot of pressure but Lutz and Kolanos didn’t succeed. Rittner Buam, however, tied the result: Tommaso Travesa found a right way in the front of the slot as he scored with a shot certainly not irresistible after 24 minutes of the game. Two minutes later Janis Sprutks tried to score but this time the goalkeeper saved the result. After 27 minutes Killeen saved the first shot of Dan Sullivan but he could do nothing about the shot of Marchetti in powerplay situation of home team. The Renon answered with the post of Oscar Ahlstrom in powerplay situation but Asiago kept the advantage. The match was hard-fought: the guests put a lot of pressure but they didn’t succeed. Scandella went close to another goal. The last two minutes of period were played with a superiority of Rittner Buam but the second period finished with the lead of Asiago (2:1). Asiago lost another player for injury: Davide Dal Sasso. During the third period Kolanos missed another good chance. After 47 minutes the Rittner Buam accelerated in the central area as Alex Frei scored the tie (2:2) against a Cloutier not so was ready. The game became very exciting and the two teams played with a lot of energy.  After 52 minutes there was the most important action of the game: Marchetti placed a great puck in the middle for Scandella that put the puck under the crossbar. After Asiago took the new lead the game was free of tactics and the two teams played an open game. The Asiago kept the lead with a good attitude in defense as they closed the game with the empty net goal of Kolanos in the finals seconds of the game. Asiago won 4:2 and tie the series of Final (1:1). This is the first seasonal victory of Asiago against Ritten after six defeats in a row. On Wednesday there will be the third game in Klobenstein of Final of AHL.
