Six games were on the program in the Alps Hockey League on Boxing Day. In the top match, Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey celebrated a 5:2 home win against league leader HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana. The EC Bregenzerwald won the Vorarlberg derby against the VEU Feldkirch with 5:1. It was already the seventh win in a row for the ECB. The EHC Lustenau celebrated a 9:0 shutout victory at the EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel. The Rittner Buam managed a surprising 4:3-SO victory against the third in the standings, the HC Pustertal Wölfe. In the other two games, HC Gherdeina valgardena.it won with 6:3 at the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan and the SHC Fassa Falcons won with 2:1 at S. G. Cortina Hafro.
Asiago wins crunch encounter against Ljubljana
Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey won the crunch encounter against league leader HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana with 5:2. Alex Frei and Marco Rosa scored a brace for ASH. The 38-year-old Rosa scored the first goal of the game, in minute 16, in the power play. In the second period, the guests from Ljubljana were able to turn the game to 2:1, before Lorenzo Casetti equalized the game shortly before the end of the period. In the final period, the hosts decided the game in their favor with three more goals. It was already the sixth game in a row in which the Italians did not lose. In the standings, Asiago is in fourth place. The gap to Ljubljana is five points. Both teams have played 16 matches.
Bregenzerwald continues winning streak
The EC Bregenzerwald won the Voralbergderby against the VEU Feldkirch with 5:1 and celebrated the seventh win in a row. Man of the match was the Latvian Roberts Lipsbergs, who scored four of the five goals. The 26-year-old already has 15 goals from just nine games. For Feldkirch it was the second defeat in a row. They are in eighth place in the standings. After a goalless first 20 minutes, the fifth-placed team from Bregenzerwald took the 1:0 lead after eleven seconds in the second period. The remaining goals were all scored in the final period. In addition to Lipsbergs, Daniel Ban also scored a goal for the ECB. On the side of the VEU, league top scorer Jakob Stukel scored one goal. In total the Canadian has scored 31 points. For the ECB it was the first win in Feldkirch after 1743 days.
Lustenau with shutout victory at Kitzbühel
The EHC Lustenau bounced back after two recent defeats with a clear 9:0 away win at the EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, who conceded their third defeat in a row. For EHC goalkeeper Anthony Morrone it was the second shutout in his eleventh appearance of the season. The 21-year-old Canadian saved all 25 shots on his goal. It took until the 15th minute of play for the first goal of the game. Lucas Loibnegger scored the only goal of the first period. In both the second and third periods, the Vorarlberg team added four more goals. Max Wilfan was the only player to score three times. For Kitzbühel it was the second game in a row in which they conceded nine goals (17.12. 9:2 @HKO). While Lustenau is sixth in the standings, Kitzbühel is now only in 13th place.
Val Gardena wins at the Broncos
The HC Gherdeina valgardena.it won with 6:3 at the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. For Val Gardena it was the first win after three defeats in a row. The Broncos lost for the ninth time in a row. In the first period, however, the hosts from Sterzing were clearly the better team. Theyhad 16 shots on goal. One of them found its way into the net. In the middle period, however, the guests turned up the heat. Within ten minutes of play, the „Furie“ turned the game around and took the lead with 4:1. Brad McGowan scored twice. It were already the season goals 15 and 16 for the 30-year-old Canadian. In the final period, Michael Sullmann Pilser also scored twice.
Ritten with surprise victory against Pustertal
The Ritten Buam managed a surprising 4:3 home win after shootout over the third in the table, HC Pustertal Wölfe. The Buam, who recently conceded two defeats in a row, are in twelfth place in the standings. Both teams are separated by eleven points. For Pustertal it was the first defeat after four wins in a row. In the fourth minute of the game, the guests took a 1:0 lead through Massimo Carozza. However, the answer of the hosts followed promptly. Still in the first period the Buam managed to take the lead for the first time. In the end, Ritten led with 3:2 until eight minutes before the end of the game, before Massimo Carozza scored again for Pustertal. Finally, Andreas Lutz the decisive goal in the shootout in favor of Ritten.
Fassa wins against Cortina
The SHC Fassa Falcons prevailed at the S.G. Cortina Hafro with 2:1. It was the second win in a row for the "Falcons" over Cortina. All three goals of the match were scored in the first two periods. In the last period Cortina tried everything to turn the game (10:5 shots on goal) but they did not manage to score a goal. In the standings Cortina is ninth with 18 points, Fassa is eleventh with 16 points.
