Less than 15 hours after the end of the game against Germany on Saturday evening, the red-white-red cracks were already back on the ice against Denmark. Their legs looked heavy, while the Danes were lively. Austria struggled to get out of their own zone at times and were also prone to mistakes with the glass.

The Scandinavians took advantage of their superiority in their first powerplay and made it 1-0 in the 3rd minute. 2-0 ten minutes later was preceded by a turnover in their own zone. As against Slovakia in the opening game, Austria showed a clear improvement in performance in the middle frame. But it was precisely in a phase in which they were able to establish themselves in the offensive zone time and again that Denmark scored 3-0 on a counter-attack.

This was compounded by a bit of bad luck, such as Vinzenz Rohrer, who took a full shot from a good position but broke his stick. Shortly before the end of the second period, Denmark took advantage of the next powerplay and went into the break with a 4-0 lead.

The red-white-red team fought in the final 20 minutes, but they were to be hit by another 0-5 at the start of the final period. Lucas Andersen finally increased the lead to 6-0 in the 50th minute, David Maier scored the Austrian consolation goal in the 57th minute.
