Five Austrian teams celebrated wins in the Alps Hockey League on Saturday. While the Red Bull Hockey Juniors improved to third place, Zell am See and Kitzbühel both recorded their third victory in a row. In addition, Lustenau achieved their first win of the season after regulation. The only success for an Italian team was achieved by the Fassa Falcons, who beat the Steel Wings Linz after overtime.
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors won the Alps Hockey League duel against the EC-KAC Future Team 4:3 with another small lineup. The Juniors promptly took the lead with one of their first good attacks through defender Philipp Sinn. After that, the home side weakened themselves several times with penalties before Juha Pukkila increased the lead to 2:0 on the powerplay. Klagenfurt reduced the score shortly before the break, also on the powerplay (Lippitsch, 19th). In the 5-on-5 game, the Red Bulls dominated the action on the ice. In a quick counterattack, Daniel Assavolyuk restored the two-goal lead on a pass from Maxi Wurzer (1st AHL point). Thomas Pfarrmaier in the Juniors goal now had much less work to do, while his teammates scored a fourth goal through Fabian Gschliesser. In the final period, the Carinthians came within one goal, but missed the equaliser with a shot on the crossbar. With their seventh win in eleven games, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors moved up to third place.
Zell am See and Kitzbühel extend winning streaks
In fourth place is Zell am See. After celebrating two home victories recently, the Salzburgers won in Sterzing on Saturday. Although the Broncos took the lead through Paul Eisendle, the Pinzgauers ignited the offensive engine with three goals in the middle period and secured the victory thanks to a strong powerplay. After Henrik Neubauer equalised, Daniel Ban turned the game around before Tomi Wilenius made it 5:2 with a hat-trick.
Kitzbühel also extended their winning streak to three games, the Tyroleans beat HC Meran 3:1. The visitors had a couple of good chances, Lewis Hook opened the scoring in minute 15. Later on, the Eagles were unable to convert a 5 on 3 powerplay. In the second period, Paul Mocher kept a clean sheet during the two men advantage of Merano. After the equaliser by Patrick Tomasini, the Eagles were able to go ahead again - Stefan Ortner (35th) made it 1:2. It got exciting again at the end: Two minutes before the final buzzer, Merano pulled their goalkeeper, but with 22 seconds on the clock, Henrik Hochfilzer made everything clear with an empty netter.
Victories for Vorarlberg teams
In their eighth game of the season, EHC Lustenau managed to pick up three points for the first time. The Vorarlberg team defeated Gherdeina 4:2 away from home, with Chris D'Alvise scoring a hat-trick. In addition, goalkeeper Erik Hanses had some great saves. EC Bregenzerwald also enjoyed a sense of achievement as they defeated HC Unterland, who suffered the third loss in a row. After the score was 1:1 going into the first period break, the home side set the course for victory with three power play goals in the middle period. In the end, ECB won 5:2 and moved up to sixth place in the standings.
Fassa ensures only Italian victory
After only 40 seconds, the Fassa Falcons took the lead in their home game against the Steinbach Steel Wings Linz through Edgar de Toni. The visitors quickly recovered from the deficit in what was at times a very heated game and created some good chances themselves. Sebastian Wilding finally equalised in the 35th minute. The score remained 1:1 after 60 minutes, and Stephan Deluca scored the winner in over time. Fassa moved up to eleventh place, the Steel Wings left the bottom of the table with the point.
