Bardaro scores three times, Asiago secures 7th win in a row

Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey celebrated a tight road win at Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. Anthony Bardaro scored three times and secured the 5:4 victory after shootout. Wipptals Brandon McNally scored three points and leads now the league in scoring points. Besides, HC Gherdeina valgardena.it book a 3:2 road win at HC Fassa Falcons.

The guest formation recovered Phil Pietroniro, absent from October 5, and above all it was led on the bench for the first time by the new coach Scott Beattie. Roland Hofer, Paolo Bustreo and Dino Andreotti (suspended) were absent for home team but they recovered Fabian Hackhofer. The first part of the time was certainly in favour of the Asiago which also hit a pole with Marco Rosa. The yellow-read team took advantage to the first available powerplay with Josè Magnabosco. But Tobias Kofler served a good assist to Brandon McNally who equalized the score. But it was still Asiago before the end of the time: Michele Marchetti was alone in front of the opposing net and very calmly he realized the new advantage of the visitors. In the second half the Asiago started in powerplay and realized the third goal: a great shot by Bardaro that hit Vallini and then rolled in to the net. But the Wipptal didn’t give up. Despite an alternation of penalties, Brandon McNally become an assist man: first he served a puck to Sotlar and then at the end of the period a puck to Kyle Just who skipped masterfully in the net for 3:3. In the third time again the visitors were in the lead for the fourth time with Anthony Bardaro but immediate the home team answered with Daniel Erlacher. The match was hard fought but there weren’t other goals either in the third-minute final and overtime. The match was decided on shootout: Anthony Bardaro made the decisive one for his third goal of the evening. Asiago now is one point behind the leader of Pustertal.

First home match of the new Canadian goalkeeper Matthew Hewitt after his debut in Jesenice. Just the goalkeeper of Fassa suffered the first goal after 2 minutes of play but for a deflection of one of his teammates and after a powerful shot by Derek Eastman. Then the Furies managed the advantage well and put a lot of pressure on the opponents. The Gherdeina also hit a crossbar. In the second period, the visitors doubled, right in the middle of the match, thanks to Benjamin Kostner's powerplay goal. Fassa tried to reopen the game but the goalkeeper Misa Pietila saved. Still the powerplay seemed to be the extra weapon of the Gherdeina that made 3:0 with Gabriel Vinazter at the sound of the second whistle (double superiority). During the third time Fassa shortened the distance with Karl Östman in double superiority after two contemporary penalties to Tim Linder and Christian Willeit. Then there was a phase of balance. The Fassa, despite the fatigue, realized the second goal with a deflection of Diego Iori. Then the final assault of the Falcons but the Gherdeina won by 3: 2 as they found the 9th place in the standings.
