Basic decision for the admission of iClinic Bratislava Capitals

iClinic Bratislava Capitals' application for admission to the Ice Hockey League received an unanimously agreement on Friday following a circular resolution among the eleven existing league clubs. After extensive examination of the required documents, the Slovaks thus became another international representative and the first participant from Slovakia to receive the conditionally eligibility to play in the 2020/21 season. iClinic Bratislava Capitals now has until May 4 to finally confirm the eligibility to play by fulfilling the obligations required by the basic decision.

Only a few days after the conclusion of the contract with the new title sponsor bet-at-home, the international ice hockey league will be joined for the first time by the iClinic Bratislava Capitals League from Slovakia, provided the obligations are met. iClinic Bratislava Capitals' strong request also convinced with the Onrej Nepela Ice Hockey Arena, which should be available for all games. The arena, which last year hosted the 83rd Men's Ice Hockey World Championships, would thus be the first league stadium with a capacity of over 10,000 spectators.

The Slovaks will be also the team with the most recent history. The club was founded in 2015 as HC Bratislava. After two years in the third and two years in the second Slovakian league, the team gave itself a new face before the 2019/2020 season. HC Bratislava became iClinic Bratislava Capitals. In the first season after the rebranding, the capitals led the 1st hokejová league (SVK2) before it was discontinued due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Setting the course for the future
"We are very pleased to welcome iClinic Bratislava Capitals as another international team in the league, provided the obligations are fulfilled by May 4. The league and the clubs are convinced that they have found a member with great potential in iClinic Bratislava Capitals. Together, we have taken the next important step towards a successful future with this decision," says league president Dr. Karl Safron, who sees the admission as an important step towards setting the course.

"Although the whole sports world is at a standstill at the moment, we have continued to work consistently and are able to deliver the next positive message. Despite the current difficult situation, the league and the clubs have managed to open the doors for a new international member shortly after the new title sponsor. Bratislava and Slovakia stand for a long ice hockey tradition, and we are looking forward to this new league location," says league's managing director Christian Feichtinger.
