Last year's finalist S.G. Cortina Hafro celebrated its seventh win in a row.
The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan were able to celebrate a clear 6:1 home victory against defending champion HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice. In the first duel of the season the Slovenias won 5:4/OT. The Broncos are tied with Jesenice in the standings. Both teams have 30 points. JES is still in the second place in the table because of the better goal difference. The gap to leader Zell am See is four points. On Wednesday, the game started evenly at first. After the first period, the score was tied 1:1. After that, however, the home side took command and added three goals in the second period. The Broncos scored two more goals in the final period. In total, six different players scored for the South Tyroleans. For Jesenice it was already the third defeat from the last five games.
Zell am See wins derby in Kitzbühel
1250 spectators saw a very exciting derby between the EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel and the EK Die Zeller Eisbären. In the end, the league leader from Zell am See won 2:1 after shootout and celebrated the sixth victory from the last seven games. The lead of the Polar Bears on the first pursuers is four points. In a low-scoring game, Kitzbühel took the lead through a goal by Kevin Szabad in the 33rd minute. The score remained 1:0 until 16 minutes before the end of the game, when AHL top scorer Tomi Wilenius scored the equalizer. For the Finn it was already the 29th scoring point. After that, neither team was able to decide the game, which is why the game first went into overtime and then into a shootout. In the shootout Daniel Ban scored the decisive goal for the guests. For Kitzbühel it was the second defeat in a row. The Tyrolean team is in tenth place in the standings.
Home wins for Cortina, Ritten and Val Gardena
S.G. Cortina Hafro beat the HK RST Pellet Celje 5:3 and celebrated already the seventh consecutive victory in the Alps Hockey League. The reigning vice-champion is still in fifth place in the standings. However, the Italians struggled for a long time against the league newcomer from Slovenia. After nine minutes, the league's twelfth-placed team was even 2:1 in front. In the end, it went into the first intermission with a score of 2:2. In the second period, there were no goals on the scoreboard. In the 49th minute the home side could take the lead through Diego Cuglietta. Only a short time later, Riccardo Lacedelli scored to make it 4:2. Celje was able to reduce the score once again, but in the end it was too little for a point win in Cortina.
Fourth-placed Rittner Buam SkyAlps also continued their run of success and celebrated their fourth win in a row. But the South Tyroleans also had some problems in their game on All Saints' Day. Against the Steel Wings Linz AG, the Buam prevailed narrowly with 3:2. For the Steel Wings it was the second defeat from the last five games. In the standings, the Upper Austrians are in eleventh place. After a goalless starting period, Ritten took a 2:0 lead in the second period with a double strike. After 40 minutes, the home side was 3:1 up. In the 49th minute, Linz was able to reduce the score to 2:3 in double powerplay situation, but they were unable to equalize afterwards.
The HC Gherdeina valgardena.it beat the SHC Fassa Falcons 3:2 after shootout and are now in 15th place in the standings, while Fassa, which has lost all of its past six games, is one place and point ahead of GHE. On Wednesday, the Falcons had a 3:2 lead until 27 seconds before the end of the third period and had one more player on the ice. But the Italians did not bring the advantage to the finish, as Samuel Moroder scored in a shorthanded situation to tie the game. In the shootout it was Anthony DeLuca who scored the decisive penalty.
Unterland wins goal festival against Lustenau
The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers won 6:5 after overtime against the EHC Lustenau and celebrated their third victory in a row. For ninth-placed Lustenau it was the first defeat after two wins in a row before. In a varied game, the home side from Neumarkt initially took a 2:0 lead, and after 31 minutes they were 3:1 in front. However, Lustenau came back in the second period and the game went into the break with the score of 3:3. In the final period, things got turbulent. First Unterland took the lead again, before the guests from Vorarlberg scored twice within 18 seconds in two powerplay situations in the 48th minute and thus took the lead for the first time this evening. In the end, however, the home team prevailed thanks to Elmeri Hällfors after overtime. The 21-year-old Finn initially equalized just ten seconds after trailing. In the overtime, the forward completed an assist of Aleksi Käyrä after 72 seconds. It was Hellförs' first brace in the Alps Hockey League.
