Black Wings aim for top-3 with extended point streak

Short text 656 CharactersPlain text

The Steinbach Black Wings Linz were able to point in each of their last eleven games and climbed up to fourth place. In the 16th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League, the Upper Austrians will attack the top-3 for the first time this season in a direct duel with third-placed EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV on Friday. But Hydro Fehérvár AV19 currently has the longest lasting winning streak. In their home game against HCB Südtirol Alperia, the Hungarians are aiming for their sixth win in a row. EC-KAC and EC Red Bull Salzburg can also boast series - at least in front of their home crowd: Both Klagenfurt and Salzburg want to keep their clean slates on Friday.

win2day ICE Hockey League | 27.10.2023 | Schedule:
Fri, 27.10.2023, 19.15: EC-KAC - Moser Medical Graz99ers
Referees: SIEGEL, SOOS, Vaczi, Weiss. | >> live.ice.hockey <<

The Moser Medical Graz99ers celebrated their only win of the season so far just two weeks ago at home against EC-KAC. Now the Styrians face Klagenfurt in the Heidi-Horten-Arena - and it is a really tough place this season. In six home games so far this season, the KAC has won just as many - only one point has been given away in the home arena. In the only meeting so far this season, Anthony Salinitri scored the decisive goal with just over a minute remaining to secure the first and only win for Graz. Klagenfurt still has to do without goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm. In the last three games, Christian Engstrand - who played for the 99ers last season - was in charge of the goalie box with great success: With a saving percentage of 94.2%, he leads the league's goalie ranking. Should he also be preferred on Friday, the 34-year-old Swede will be doubly motivated against his former team.

Fri, 27.10.2023, 19.15: Hydro Fehérvár AV19 - HCB Südtirol Alperia
Referees: PIRAGIC, ZRNIC, Miklic, Muzsik | >> live.ice.hockey <<

In the game Hydro Fehérvár AV19 against HCB Südtirol Alperia, the current second-placed team hosts the tenth-placed team of the win2day ICE Hockey League. While the Hungarians have the longest winning streak with five games in a row, the South Tyroleans also found their game after their false start. Both against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and against HK SZ Olimpija they celebrated overtime victories. However, the last win in regulation was already five games ago - and it will need a few of those in the near future, if the Foxes still want to orient themselves in the direction of the top 6. In the first meeting between these two teams, the Hungarians prevailed 3:1 after a strong last period. Until the 47th minute, however, David Kiss' team was still trailing 0:1.

Fri, 27.10.2023, 19.15: EC Red Bull Salzburg - spusu Vienna Capitals
Referees: NIKOLIC M, SMETANA, Bärnthaler, Nothegger | >> live.ice.hockey <<

The crisis-ridden spusu Vienna Capitals host reigning champions EC Red Bull Salzburg on Friday. While the Viennese are now winless for nine games and without points for eight games, the Bulls were able to regain the lead in the standings only on Wednesday. The Caps' interim coaching duo of Christian Dolezal and Fabian Scholz are also still dealing with an extremely tight personnel situation. Short-term relief should come from Austrian national team defender Kilian Zündel. Whether Zündel can start against his former club, with whom he won the win2day ICE Hockey League in the 2021/22 season, is still unclear. The Caps and Salzburg have already dueled once this season - at least for 20 minutes. The match then had to be abandoned at 2:0 for Salzburg due to a hole in the ice. The Red Bulls are still unbeaten on home ice in the league this season. In seven home games, only a single point had to be handed over.

Fri, 27.10.2023, 19.15: EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV - Steinbach Black Wings Linz
Referees: PALKÖVI, STERNAT, Bedynek, Riecken | >> live.ice.hockey <<

EC iDM Wäremepumpen VSV had to end its five-game winning streak on Wednesday, relinquishing the lead in the standings. Against the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg it set a harsh 1:6 defeat in the 15th round - their highest defeat this season. Steinbach Black Wings Linz pointed in each of their last eleven games and thus have the longest point streak this season. The Upper Austrians have even won eight of their last ten games, putting them on the heels of Villach. With a win in Villach, the Black Wings could leave VSV behind on Friday. In the first duel of the season, the Eagles prevailed 4:2.

Fri, 27.10.2023, 19.15: HC TIWAG Innsbruck - BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg
Referees: HUBER, OFNER, Seewald, Wimmler | >> live.ice.hockey <<

Also in the duel between HC TIWAG Innsbruck and the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg it comes to the clash of two table neighbors. While the Innsbruck team - which remained match-free on Wednesday - recently suffered another defeat after three wins in a row, the team from Feldkirch ended a five-game losing streak on Wednesday. Just against the league leader from Villach, the Pioneers managed a clear 6-1 liberation and thus the fall of the eagles from the top. Daniel Woger, Nick Pastujov (both two goals) and Guus van Nes (one goal, three assists) stood out from a strong collective. In the first duel of the season between these two teams, Innsbruck prevailed 4:2 in the end in an exciting game.

Fri, 27.10.2023, 19.45: Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey - HC Pustertal
Referees: GROZNIK, SCHAUER, Rigoni, Zgonc | >> live.ice.hockey <<<

At HC Pustertal, who started the season worth seeing and temporarily held the lead in the standings, victories and defeats alternated in the last games. On Wednesday, the Wolves had to admit defeat against the new league leader Salzburg with 1:4 - the Wolves came under the wheels right in the first period. Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey, on the other hand, fought their way into overtime in Bolzano on Wednesday, but drew the short straw there. The first duel of the season between these two teams was a clear affair for Pustertal. Alex Petan scored a hat trick in the 5:2 victory.
