Salzburg continues run of success

EC Red Bull Salzburg continued its winning run also against the reigning champions. The Bulls celebrated an narrow 5:4 victory over EC-KAC, but already led 3:0 in the interim. The Klagenfurt team fought their way back into the match, but were never able to equalize. Peter Schneider shone as he did a few days ago: after the MVP from the 2018/19 season managed a hat trick on Saturday, Schneider added a brace in Salzburg's last game before Christmas. This was the fifth straight win for the Red Bulls, who further extended their lead in the standings.

Black Wings end negative run

The Steinbach Black Wings ended their seven-game losing streak on Tuesday, preventing a new negative record since joining the league. After the Upper Austrians on Sunday still the fraction of a second was missing, in order to return again into the road to success, it worked out two days later against the EC Grand Immo VSV. The Black Wings took the lead four times in total in this encounter, but three times the Eagles had the appropriate answer. Only the goal of Julian Pusnik in the final period remained unanswered and thus ensured the first victory in almost a month.

Fehervar wins duel for third place

Hydro Fehérvár AV19 celebrated a victory in the direct duel with the spusu Vienna Capitals for the third place in the table. After a goalless starting third, the Hungarians put the score at 2-0 with a double strike in the middle third, but the Viennese fought back impressively and equalized by the 52nd minute. However, a little more than two minutes before the end Andrew Sarauer provided the game winner for the Hungarians. Fehérvár thus drew level with the Caps in points and left the Viennese behind again for the time being. For the Caps, victories and defeats continue to alternate, as they did in the previous five games.

Dornbirn with a strong sign of life in the West derby

After the razor-thin success of the Dornbirn Bulldogs on Sunday against league last-place Linz the Vorarlberger added in the west derby against the HC TIWAG Innsbruck properly. As two days ago, the Bulldogs' offense worked well, but this time the defense showed decent improvement. The 1:5 defeat of the Innsbruck team was already the third failure in a row. For the fourth time this season, the Tyroleans lost by a difference of four goals - they have not lost higher in the current season. For the Bulldogs, on the other hand, this was the highest league win this season.

Pustertal celebrates comeback derby win

In the third South Tyrolean derby this season, league newcomer HC Pustertal won for the second time. For the first time since January 24, 2013, the two teams met in an official competitive game at the ice wave in Bolzano - at that time the Foxes won 5-0 in Serie A. Almost nine years later, the Wolves managed the long-delayed revenge in Bolzano. For a long time, things did not look good for Raimo Helminen's team. A double strike by Mike Halmo in the middle period gave the hosts a 2:0 lead. In the final period, however, Pustertal started a storming run on the net of Justin Fazio. After Armin Hofer's goal, Shane Hanna and Max Gerlach both scored in powerplay and ensured the fifth full victory in the last six games. The Wolves thus brought themselves back within striking distance of the pre-playoff spots.
