Thomas Höneckl made his debut in the ICE in the 2007/08 season. In five seasons with his home club, EC Red Bull Salzburg, the goalkeeper celebrated three championship titles. This was followed by signings in Villach, Graz and Dornbirn, as well as four appearances in DEL 2 for Kaufbeuren. Höneckl is now entering his fourth season with the Steinbach Black Wings Linz. The now 34-year-old has been on the ice for a total of 235 games in the win2day ICE Hockey Leauge, recording a save percentage of 90.2 percent.

Jürgen Penker, goalie coach of the Black Wings: "We can be very happy that we have such an experienced goalie duo in Linz that we can fully trust for the third season now. Thomas Höneckl has proven many times this year that despite his long and successful career, he doesn't just want to sit on the bench. He has absolutely earned his comeback in the national team. At the same time, he is a great role model for our young goalies and gives them valuable help for their development so that they can move up in the foreseeable future."
