When Bohdan Panasenko packed his bags this summer and left Celje to join KHL Sisak, he was looking for a new challenge. Just a few weeks into the season, the 22-year-old Ukrainian forward has already emerged as one of the standout players in the Alps Hockey League. Four goals in his first three games underline his strong start – including a spectacular Michigan Goal in Sisak’s 5–0 win over Unterland.

“This league is pretty good, all the teams are competitive. Sisak is a nice city, and overall, I really like Croatia,” says Panasenko, who has been competing in the Alps Hockey League since December 2023 and recorded 46 points in 51 games for his former club, Celje.

His debut for Sisak could hardly have gone better. With four goals in just three games, Panasenko made an immediate impact. The Michigan Goal against Unterland stands out as a special moment – and for the forward himself, it was more than just a highlight-reel strike. “This could be one of my best goals. It’s something really special to score like this,” he admits.

Success has come quickly for the team as well: Sisak sits unbeaten at the top of the standings with eight out of a possible nine points. For Panasenko, this strong start is no surprise. “We expected it; we know we can play and beat any team in this league,” he explains confidently. “The main goal is to make the playoffs – and then we can think about winning the championship.”

On Thursday (7:30 p.m., live on valcome.tv), Sisak faces its next big test: a home clash with HDD Jesenice. The reigning runners-up are a familiar opponent, with Sisak having beaten them twice in three meetings last season. Panasenko knows exactly what will be required this time. “Discipline, be tough against them, and never give up,” the 22-year-old says.

Off the ice, the atmosphere in Sisak has also left a mark on the young forward. More than 1,700 fans packed the arena for the first home game, creating an unforgettable setting. “It’s really nice to play at home. With so many fans behind you, it always motivates and pushes you every single time,” he says with a smile.
