Both teams made a cautious start to the fifth encounter, with Salzburg making the first attacking moves. Dennis Robertson missed the target on the best chance at first, although he was free standing. The Red Bulls took the lead in the ninth minute: Drake Rymsha took the puck flat to the goal in powerplay and beat HCB goalie Sam Harvey. Bolzano got into the game better after the goal, but was unable to capitalize on its first power play. They went into the first break with the score at 1:0.

After the restart, the teams continued to play at eye level with chances on both sides. Benjamin Nissner only hit the crossbar for the home side, while Luca Frigo equalized in the 36th minute - he scored from the slot after a perfect assist from Miceli. Just over four minutes later, Mario Huber put RBS back in front: Shorthanded, the 23-year-old from Salzburg escaped the Bolzano powerplay and scored just five seconds before the second intermission siren to make it 2-1.

The Red Bulls also largely controlled the beginning of the final period. Philipp Sinn caused a stir in the 49th minute when he scored what was supposed to be 3:1. However, the goal was disallowed due to goalkeeper interference. Luca Frigo equalized immediately on the counter-attack with his second goal of the evening. In the hard-fought final minutes, Dylan Di Perna finally became the game-winner for the visitors from Bolzano: With his second goal of the season, fourth ICE career goal and his first ever playoff goal, the 27-year-old Italian-Canadian scored to give his team a 3:2 final score and a 3:2 series lead. This gives the Foxes their first chance to qualify for the 2024 final of the win2day ICE Hockey League in front of their home crowd next Saturday. The Red Bulls, meanwhile, are fighting against the end of the season in the Sparkasse Arena Bolzano.
