The 35-year-old Italian-Canadian Nick Plastino joined Bolzano during the summer of 2020. Plastinoturned out to be the second best defender of his team in the past season: he scored 33 points (7 goals and 26 assists), a plus/minus of +24 only 16 penalty minutes in the entire championship. In his second season in Bolzano he will also return to the Champions Hockey League, having played in the past with the Stavanger Oilers, Tappara Tampere and Ambrì Piotta.

The Canadian took his first steps on the ice in the youth teams of his home country before he moved to Europe in 2007 to Asiago, where he stayed for four seasons and matured into a top performer. He won two consecutive Italian championships with the Veneto team (2010 and 2011), amassing a total of 124 points in 209 games, and was also called up to the Blue Team. After a brief stint in the ECHL, he returned to Europe and signed on in Sweden: there he played for two seasons in the Allsvenskan, and in 2013 he got a contract in the Swedish first division with Orebro. The following year he moved to Norway to the Stavanger Oilers: there he was the best defender of his team with 49 points (15+34) in 57 games, won the championship and played for the first time in Champions Hockey League, where he contributed another five points in six matches. In 2015, however, he changed teams again and ended up in the Liiga: in the jersey of Tappara he turned out to be a top performer again, winning the Finnish championship, scoring 33 points in 73 games and being the best passer in the playoffs. In 2016, he spent a year in the KHL with HC Slovan Bratislava, scoring 26 points in 60 games. The following year he moved to Switzerland to HC Ambrì-Piotta, where he scored 87 points in 166 games in three seasons between the championship, Champions Hockey League, Swiss Cup and Spengler Cup.
