Salzburg had the better of the play early in the game but it took more than three minutes until Martin Stajnoch got the first puck goalwards. Soon later the visitors took the lead thanks to a backhand goal by Alexander Cijan. In further consequence the Red Bulls could not capitalize on three successive powerplays while Bolzano did better scoring on their first opportunity. Goalie Starkbaum was screened when Angelo Miceli fired into the top corner. In the final two minutes of the opening period Salzburg had another man advantage but Bolzano defended well again. The hosts came out hard for the second but they missed a lot of good chances. First, Frigo's shot shot from close range went wide and then Starkbaum had two big saves. After stopping Frank on a breakaway he saves a penalty shot by Smith. At the halfway point of the game the home tam turned the game around when Travis Oleksuk converted a Glira pass from behind net. However, Salzburg received one more power play and this time Mueller lit the lamp to tie it at two. Joy was short-lived for Salzburg as it took less than a minute for Bolzano to restore the lead. Alex Petan deflected a shot from Egger on their second power play for a 3:2 result after 40 minutes. Early in the third Schiechl failed twice because of HCB goalie Tuokkola and with Duncan getting a penalty, the foxes scored again. Gartner fired the puck home for a two-goal home lead. Just a few minutes later they also used their fourth power play as Bernard scored on a rebound. After killing their first penalty of the game, Salzburg pulled one back by Mueller. With two and a half minutes to go they pulled their goalie for an extra skater and Frank finished off the scoring with an empty netter. Game 7 takes place in Salzburg on Friday.
