Bolzano grabs Vinschgau Cup

The HCB Südtirol Alperia won this year’s Vnischgau Cup at Latsch, as the two-time champion defeated Kölner Haie (GER) 5:2 in the final. At once, the EC Panaceo VSV celebrated a victory in Bled’s tournament, beating HK SZ Olimpija (SLO) 2:1. Hydro Fehérvár AV19 reached the third place, after taking a 3:1 win against HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice (SLO). While the HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie” remain unbeaten, celebrating the third straight victory, the Dornbirn Bulldogs suffered a harsh defeat, losing 1:9 to Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers (GER) on the road.

Bolzano crows over Kölner Haie and wins Vinschgau Cup
After defeating ERC Ingolstadt in Friday’s semifinal, the HCB Südtirol Alperia crowned over second DEL club Kölner Haie to win the Vinschgau Cup 2019. The “foxes“ celebrated a 5:2 win in the end. Right at the beginning the Germans scored, leading till halfway through the first, as Jamie Arniel tied it at one. Bolzano pulled through a „sharks“ powerplay and had the better of the play later in the first. With Ivan Deluca and Daniel Glira, the two-time champion scored twice in the second, but Köln halved the deficit late in the middle frame. In the last Bolzano was focused on counterattacks and got rewarded in the last three minutes with two empty netter, after the “sharks” pulled their goalie about three minutes to go.

Innsbruck beats Ravensburg again, remains unbeaten
The HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie“ played DEL2 champion Ravensburg Towerstars back-to-back. After the 4:3 win on Friday, the Tyrolese grabbed a 5:2 victory on the road, remaining unbeaten in preseason. After a non-goal opening frame, in which C.J. Motte prevent Innsbruck from being down, both teams increased speed in the second. With Innsbruck being more effectful in front of the net, the “sharks” took a 4:2 lead into the last, where the Tyrolese dominated the game and Joel Broda made his second goal and fastened the victory.

Second loss for Dornbirn at Mercedes-Benz Rent Cup
The Dornbirn Bulldogs had to take their second clear defeat at Mercedes-Benz Rent Cup, losing to host Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers (GER) 1:9. Straubing Tigers (GER) won the tournament after a 5:4 win against the HC Davos (CH). As on Saturday too, the Bulldogs missed a lot of regulars on the defensive end and so they did not stand a chance. The Ice Tigers scored five in the first, three in the second for the preliminary decision. The last frame, where Matthias Tschrepitsch replaced Rasmus Rinne, was tied at one. Antti Kauppila scored.

VSV wins tournament at Bled, Fehérvár finishs third
After Grenoble left the tournament at Bled due to participation in Champions Hockey League next week, the EC Panaceo VSV took on HK SZ Olimpija (SLO) in the final. The first frame ended goalless. Then Villach decided the game in the second with Miika Lahti shorthanded and Patrick Spannring scoring. Hydro Fehérvár AV19 took the third place, as the Hungarian side defeated HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice 3:1. Stipsicz, Erdely and Lehtonen each achieved a goal for last year’s quarterfinalist.
