After making his first steps in juniors, Stollery was signed to an undrafted contract in the American Hockey League in 2012, where he scored 34 points in 72 games in his first season with the Lake Erie Monsters. In the years that followed, he was signed to a two-way contract that also gave him 23 appearances in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks and New Jersey Devils. At the same time, he played in the AHL for the Worcester Sharks, San Jose Barracuda and Albany Devils. In 2017, he moved to Europe and joined Dinamo Riga in the KHL, with whom he also played in the Spengler Cup. In the same season, he was also called up to Team Canada for the first time and won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. He remained in the KHL the following year before moving to Finland to join Jokerit and then to Sweden in 2019/20: he won the Champions Hockey League with Frölunda by beating Mountfield HK 3-1 in the final.

"This season's programme is very tight," explains Bolzano's sporting director Dieter Knoll, "there are still a lot of games to play: due to injuries, our defence is inadequate and that's why we signed Karl, who will certainly be a great help to us with his experience and talent."
