In the 38th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League, HCB Südtirol Alperia won 4:1 in the derby against HC Pustertal. It was the third derby win for the “Foxes” in the third duel of the season. HCB are still one point behind leaders Hydro Fehérvár AV19, who defeated Linz 2:1. EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV lost despite a clear 4:0 lead against Olimpija Ljubljana. In the end, the Slovenians prevailed 5:4/SO. The EC-KAC and the Moser Medical Graz99ers celebrated shutout victories and the Pioneers Vorarlberg continued their upward trend against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey.
HCB Südtirol Alperia also won the third derby of the season against HC Pustertal. Braden Christoffer (23.), Cristiano Digiacinto (44.), Adam Helewka (47.) and Luca Frigo (48./PP1) got on the scoresheet for the “Foxes” in front of 6,738 fans in the completely sold-out Sparkasse Arena. In the meantime, the visitors from Bruneck took the lead through Daniel Glira (11.). It was one of four wins from the last five games for second-placed Bolzano. They are still one point behind leaders Fehérvár in the table. Pustertal, who were beaten for the first time after three wins in a row, remain in ninth place and are seven points ahead of the eleventh-placed Pioneers.
Villach loses despite 4:0 lead
EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV had a comfortable 4:0 lead against Olimpija Ljubljana after 30 minutes. In the end, however, the “Eagles” were beaten 4:5/SO and suffered their first home defeat after seven wins in a row. In the shootout, former NHL star Nick Bonino, who also scored to make it 3:4, converted the decisive penalty for the Slovenians, who celebrated one of six wins from their last seven games. Ljubljana are still eighth in the table, VSV are fourth, but only two points ahead of sixth-placed Linz. Both Chase Pearson and Nikita Scherbak scored twice for Villach.
Narrow home win for league leaders Fehérvár against Linz
League leader Hydro Fehérvár AV19 narrowly won 2:1 against Steinbach Black Wings Linz. It was the Hungarians' third win of the season in their fourth duel with the Upper Austrians. In front of almost 4.100 fans, the Hungarians took a 2:0 lead after just 14 minutes. However, the fourth-best offense in the league was unable to overcome Martin Reder in the Black Wings' goal from that moment on. The 19-year-old celebrated his debut in the win2day ICE Hockey League on Sunday. Brian Lebler scored the visitors' only goal in the 46th minute in the powerplay. It was the fifth defeat in a row for Linz, who slipped to seventh place in the table. Fehérvár celebrated one of three wins from the last five games.
Shutout victories for Graz and Klagenfurt
Both the Moser Medical Graz99ers and the EC-KAC won 3:0 away from home. Graz was victorious at the spusu Vienna Capitals, while Klagenfurt celebrated its eighth consecutive league win in Innsbruck. Goaltender Florian Vorauer saved all 24 shots on goal and celebrated his second shutout of the season. Raphael Herburger (33.), Mathias From (49.) and Jan Mursak (57.) scored the goals for the KAC. In third place in the table, Klagenfurt are still four points behind leaders Fehérvár. Innsbruck conceded their seventh defeat in a row and are bottom of the table.
Nicolas Wieser was the man of the match in Graz's shutout win in Vienna. The goalkeeper saved all 25 shots on goal and celebrated his second shutout of the season. It was the first win for the new fifth-placed team from Graz after two consecutive defeats. The Capitals are still in tenth place, but are only six points ahead of the eleventh-placed Pioneers. In their third defeat in the last four games, Vienna went behind in the 18th minute. It then took until the 53rd minute before Graz increased the lead to 2:0 through Nico Brunner. Michael Schiechl scored the third goal with an empty-netter.
Pioneers against Asiago without problems
The Pioneers Vorarlberg are still on the upswing. For the team in eleventh place in the table, who reduced the gap to tenth place to six points, Sunday was one of five wins from their last six games. David Keefer was the only player to score twice in the 5:2 home win against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. It was the center's second brace of the season. The Pioneers were already 3:0 ahead after 28 minutes and 5:1 up after 50 minutes. In the end, Asiago conceded their thirteenth defeat in a row. As twelfth in the table, they are now seven points behind the Pioneers and thirteen points behind the tenth-placed Capitals.
