After two road defeats, Bregenzerwald played its home opener on Wednesday against Kitzbühel. Following a scoreless first period, the hosts took the lead in the 29th minute: Philipp Pöschmann’s shot went in with KEC goaltender Tom McCollum screened. Just four minutes later, the visitors from Tyrol equalized when Mai Crnkic was left alone in front of the net and managed to beat Lorenz Widhalm on the rebound. But only moments later, the Vorarlberg side struck again, this time on the power play, with Pöschmann beating McCollum at the near post. Despite taking six penalties, Kitzbühel pushed hard for another equalizer, but Bregenzerwald held on to their narrow lead and celebrated their first victory of the season.
