Bregenzerwald surprises against Cortina

The EC Bregenzerwald delivered the big surprise of the Thursday games in Alps Hockey League. The Austrians defeated S.G. Cortina Hafro after trailing 1:2. The Steel Wings Linz captured the first point since 5th October but still had to take a defeat against VEU Feldkirch in shootout. The top-duel of the day was decided by the Rittner Buam. The Fassa Falcons found the connection to the top-6 after winning against HC Gherdeina.

Steel Wings Linz eke out point against VEU
The Steel Wings Linz captured their first point since 5th of October. After 14 games with no points the young team fought in overtime but had to take another defeat – this time in penalty shootout. VEU opened the scoring of the night but Linz captured the lead still in the first period. In the second third Feldkirch took control and the lead. But the Steel Wings didn’t give up and fought in overtime. After a goalless overtime Kevin Puschnik found the decision.

HC Pustertal wins duel against neighbor in standings
The HC Pustertal celebrated a win against the former neighbor in standings EK Zeller Eisbären. Pustertal succeeded to narrow the gap to the top team of the league. Already in the first period the vice champion of the past season built a 4:1 lead. Pustertal increased the lead to 7:2 before the race to catch up of the Eisbären started. Four minutes before the buzzer Zell created an exciting hockey game again scoring the 6:7. The away team took full risk and received the empty-netter. Despite the loss the Eisbären are still on a top-six spot.

Ritter Buam win top game
The Rittner Buam won the top game against Migross Supermercati Asiago, defended the second place in standings and narrowed the gap to the top team to two points. Asiago took the lead early in the game. Ritten acted much more efficiently in the first period and captured the 2:1 lead. The Buam increased the lead to 4:1 till the beginning of the third, before Asiago came back. Alex Frei found the decision with an empty netter and created the result of 6:4 for Ritten. This was the sixths consecutive loss of Asiago Hockey and is the longest losing streak of Asiago in AHL history.

Bregenzerwald surprises against Cortina
The EC Bregenzerwald delivered the big surprise of the night. The Austrians ended their five games losing streak against S.G. Cortina Hafro. Cortina had the better start into the game opening the scoring of the night. Bregenzerwald tied twice, once in the second period and once in the third. The Austrian acted much more efficiently in the crunch time. Johan Lorraine went for the lead first and even scored the emptynetter for the decision.

Falcons extend winning streak
The SHC Fassa Falcons extended its winning streak to five. After a 4:3 success against the HC Gherdeina the Falcons are trailing by one point anymore to the top-six, but absolved two games less. Gherdeina opened the scoring but then the Falcons found their rhythm and created the 4:1 within the second period. Gherdeina tried to comeback but it was too late to force the overtime. The Falcons celebrated a 4:3 win to connect with the top-6.
