Bregenzerwald takes win after shootout

After winning the Austrian AHL Championship, EC Bregenzerwald celebrated a 3:2 victory over Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan in Qualification Round A after shootout. The team from Vorarlberg drew level with the South Tyroleans in the standings, is in second place and took a big step towards participation in the pre-playoffs.

The first period of this encounter was scoreless with a total of only eleven shots on goal, offensive action was almost non-existent. In the second period, both teams picked up momentum, Julian Zwerger (31.) putting the home team in the lead about midway through the game. The guests from South Tyrol struck back twice at the start of the final period: they scored on both power play occasions, with Alessio Niccolai (41./PP1) and Tobias Kofler (42./PP1) making it 2-1. Philipp Pöschmann then helped the Vorarlberg team into overtime with his goal in the 54th minute. No goals were scored there. Richard Schlögl then provided the extra point in favor of the home team in an exciting penalty shootout.
