In three out of four quarterfinal series of the Alps Hockey League, the favored team managed to take a 2:0 lead in the "Best-of-Seven" series. However, a closer look at the individual games reveals that the quarterfinal matches so far have been incredibly close and fiercely contested. Four of the eight games in this phase went into overtime. In one series, the team that led for only 16 seconds and was behind for over 76 minutes in its quarterfinal games of the current campaign is ahead 2:0. EC Bregenzerwald, the Zeller Eisbären, and HC Meran/o are now fighting for their quarterfinal victory on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors and the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers are dueling for the lead in the series.

Sat, 09.03.2024, 6:00 PM: Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan - EK Zeller Eisbären
Referees: LAZZERI, OREL, Arlic, Bergant | >> valcome.tv <<

Even though the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan lead the series 2:0, the first two quarterfinal matches could hardly have been more exciting: In both games, the decision came only in overtime. After the Broncos won the home opener in the 63rd minute, it took over 64 minutes in the second game before a winner could be determined. In both quarterfinal matches, the Zeller Eisbären were ahead 3:1 at times, before a final offensive by the Broncos prevented the series from being tied. The series standings look even more bitter from the "Eisbären’s" perspective when considering the time the teams spent in the lead. While the Eisbären spent over 76 minutes in the lead in the current quarterfinal, the Broncos were ahead for a total of just 16 seconds. The Eisbären are now fighting in the third quarterfinal match, visiting the Broncos, to catch up in the series.

Sat, 09.03.2024, 7:15 PM: Red Bull Hockey Juniors – Hockey Unterland Cavaliers
Referees: HLAVATY, VIRTA, Fleischmann, Puff | >> valcome.tv <<

In the first two quarterfinal matches between the Red Bull Hockey Juniors and the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers, the host team won each time. With the series tied at 1:1, the Salzburg team hosts the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers again. The Juniors kicked off the postseason with a hard-fought 3:2 overtime win. It wasn’t until the 73rd minute that the home team secured the win through Paul Vinzens. Two days later, the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers responded decisively: a 3:0 shutout win to even the series. Cavaliers goalie Simone Peiti blocked a total of 30 shots from the dangerous Red Bull offense. For Peiti, it was the first shutout of the season, and he couldn’t have chosen a better time for it. The Juniors were kept scoreless for the third time this season – on two previous occasions, it was against S.G. Cortina Hafro.

Sat, 09.03.2024, 8:00 PM: Rittner Buam SkyAlps – EC Bregenzerwald
Referees: KAINBERGER, SCHAUER, Moidl, Weiss | >> valcome.tv <<

The Rittner Buam SkyAlps continue their success from the Master Round into the quarterfinals seamlessly. After the first two quarterfinal matches against EC Bregenzerwald, Ritten leads 2:0. However, the Vorarlberg team pushed the favorites to the brink of defeat in the second game: It wasn’t until overtime – in the 76th minute – that the Buam secured the win. No other team has come so close to defeating Ritten in the last eleven league games. If Bregenzerwald cannot prevent a win by the Buam in the third quarterfinal, it would mean four match pucks for Ritten.

Sat, 09.03.2024, 8:30 PM: S.G. Cortina Hafro – HC Meran/o Pircher
Referees: BAJT, PINIE, De Zordo, Jera | >> valcome.tv <<

S.G. Cortina Hafro has been more than dominant in its two quarterfinal matches against HC Meran/o Pircher. After a 5:1 home win to start, Cortina followed up with a 5:0 shutout victory in Meran. Meran’s only quarterfinal goal so far was scored by Calder Anderson in the 14th minute of the first quarterfinal. Since then, Meran has been without a goal for 106 minutes and 21 seconds (more than five periods). In the pre-playoffs, they averaged 3.3 goals per game.
