04.02.2018: WSV Sterzing Broncos Weihenstephan - Red Bull Hockey Juniors 7:2 (1:1; 4:1; 2:0)
With the first presence of Paolo Bustreo (from Fassa), the Sterzing faced Salzburg-II that on Saturday have beaten Klagenfurt-II for 5:1. The first period was very balanced in a fast and hard-fought game. The first opportunity of the match was on the stick of Giffen Nyren but the Canadian defender of the hosts missed an easy chance. Then the visitors took the lead after almost 3 minutes of play with a shot from close range of Yannick Pilloni but in reality, it was an autogoal of Tobias Kofler: the puck hit the thigh of the forward of the Sterzing as entered in the net. The Salzburg could double but Gianluca Vallini saved on a big chance of Nicolas Strodel. The home team was more concrete in the final of the first period: Giffen Nyren equalized the result on rebound after two consecutive shots by Ben Duffy. First half ended in tie (1: 1). In the second half the Broncos started much better. Jure Sotlar found a corridor in the Austrian defense, over three players, and then deposited the puck in the net from close range. The home team played with more enthusiasm. Danny Deanesi was quicker to take the puck and on rebound realized 3: 1 after a shot by Kofler after 26 minutes. Under two goals the Red Bull Hockey Juniors called time out. The move seemed to give its effect because Cristof Wappis shortened the distance two minutes later. But shortly thereafter again Broncos in goal with deflection of Mark Lee. The Red Bulls changed the goalkeeper: inside Nicolas Wieser, out Daniel Fiessinger. But before the end of the time Lee was still the protagonist with the realization of the 5: 1 after a diagonal assist of Jure Sotlar. In the third time Salzburg had not the ability to reopen the meeting while an attentive Sterzing increased the score first with Ben Duffy (43.) and then with Luca Felicetti (56.). The home team clearly exceeded the Salzburg for 7: 2 as they moved one more step towards the playoffs: now the Broncos were in 7th place with 4 points ahead of the ninth place. Now for the Italian formations the AHL will have a break. The first to come back on the rink will be the Fassa on February 20th in Feldkirch.
