Cameron Schilling's career started with four seasons in the NCAA, in which he celebrated two titles with the University of Miami (Ohio) – 2010 Regular Season Champion, 2011 Champion. In the 2011-12 season, the big defenseman moved to the AHL with the Hershey Bears, followed a year later by his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals. He then played for many years with various clubs in the AHL, making a total of 630 games. He also played ten NHL games with the Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets (2018-19).

Schilling got his first taste of Europe in the middle of the 2021-22 season, moving from the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks to Djurgårdens IF in Sweden's top league, the SHL. After relegation, he narrowly missed out on promotion back to the SHL with the club in the second division HockeyAllsvenskan in the following 2022-23 season.
