With Greg Moro, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz have presented the first new addition to their defense. The 28-year-old Canadian played last season both in Finland (SaiPa) and in the Czech Republic (HC Kometa Brno). Hydro Fehérvár AV19 has also strengthened its roster with a Canadian defenseman: Sam Jardine has already played 14 games in the win2day ICE Hockey League for the Bratislava Capitals. In addition, the Moser Medical Graz99ers have extended their contracts with youngsters and started a cooperation with Alps Hockey League club EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel.

The former NCAA champion began his career in Europe in Finland in 2022/23. Moro contributed seven points (2 goals) for SaiPa, then bottom of the Liiga, and thus recommended himself for a playoff loan to second-placed Illves. After a quick exit in the quarter-finals, he initially returned to his Finnish club last season, where he was promoted to the assistant captain. After his club once again dropped out of the race for the postseason early on, the defender moved to the Czech Extraliga at the end of last season. There he supported the fourth-placed team from Brno in thirteen games in the Regular Season. In the quarter-finals, however, his goal against Litvinov was not enough and he was once again beaten in the first round in six games. Greg Moro is moving to Linz for the 2024/25 season and will wear the number three for the Steinbach Black Wings.

Greg Moro: "I'm looking forward to getting to know Linz and getting started. I'll wear the Black Wings jersey with pride, because I've heard a lot of good things about the organization, the arena and the fans."

Fehérvár strengthens defense with Canadian Jardine
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 has signed 30-year-old defenseman Sam Jardine. The Canadian played in the NCAA during his college days and has played for several ECHL and AHL teams during his career. He spent his last season with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (ECHL) and the Calgary Wranglers (AHL). The left-shooter is also no stranger to win2day ICE Hockey: Jardine played 14 games for the Bratislava Capitals. He has also played in the EIHL and Liiga.

Sam Jardine: "The signing process was very quick. When I woke up one morning, I received a message from my manager that Hydro Fehérvár AV19 was interested in me and on the same day I spoke to Viktor Szélig and within a week the contract was signed. I had actually already considered a move to Fehérvár in the middle of the 2021 season when my team Bratislava Capitals was dissolved, but due to the tragic circumstances I preferred a fresh start in another league. I know that the win2day ICE Hockey League is a very competitive league and I am looking forward to joining Hydro Fehérvár AV19 as the team has proven to be one of the best teams in the league in recent years. Of course, the new arena is a big attraction. It will be fun to play there."

Graz extends with youngsters
The Moser Medical Graz99ers squad for the 2024/2025 season is almost complete. The contracts with Markus Hanl and Jakob Engelhart have been extended. However, Engelhart will be loaned to Kitzbühel in the Alps Hockey League until further notice. Engelhart scored two goals for the 99ers last season and is now set to take on even more responsibility in Kitzbühel under head coach Marco Pewal. Markus Hanl is currently in the Austrian army and could then also gain important experience in Kitzbühel. Another important detail: Should there be a need, the Moser Medical Graz99ers can always fall back on their own players and call the cracks back to Graz. Patrick Grascher is moving from the EC-KAC to Graz. The U18 team goalie performed well in the same age group at the EC-KAC and will initially play in the U20 team at the 99ers.
