In the first of two games within 24 hours, the spusu Vienna Capitals head to Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey on Thursday. The following day, the Viennese are challenged by second-placed Innsbruck. The Capitals have only played league newcomer Asiago once this season. On December 21st, they narrowly prevailed 4:3. Already after seven minutes the Capitals were 3:0 in front. Both teams will face each other again on Sunday, January 22nd, but then in the STEFFL Arena in Vienna. The fourth duel of the season is scheduled for Friday, February 17th. As sixth in the table, the Capitals currently have the last playoff spot. However, their lead over seventh place and the KAC is only one point. Asiago is currently one place and three points outside the pre-playoffs. However, the team from Veneto has still played three games less than tenth-placed Pustertal. On Tuesday they prevailed in the direct duel with the South Tyroleans with 2:1. It was the first win in the ICE of Asiago after six defeats in a row before. The Capitals conceded defeats in two of the past three games, having previously always scored at least one point in eight straight games and even won six of them. Man-to-watch on the Capitals' side is definitely Matt Bradley. The Canadian is the fourth best scorer in the entire ICE with 45 points and has an active point-scoring streak of six games. On Asiago's side, Allan McShane is the best scorer with 42 points (5th in the ICE).

With three wins in a row, the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV is recently back in very strong form. The Villach team prevailed 5:4/OT against Linz on Tuesday despite trailing 1:3 in the interim. VSV top goal scorer Anthony Luciani scored two goals. Overall, the Canadian scored 16 goals in just 28 games. Earlier, they defeated reigning champion Salzburg with 5:2, and as fourth in the table, their lead over the seventh place is already nine points. The Moser Medical Graz99ers, in ninth place, are already 14 points behind the sixth place, but also only four points ahead of the eleventh place, with already three more games played than Asiago. In the past three games, the Styrians have always suffered defeats. On Tuesday they lost 0:3 in Bolzano, their sixth away defeat in a row. The two teams have already faced each other three times this season. In two encounters, the 99ers prevailed. In the last duel, on December 28th, however, VSV was clearly victorious with 8:1.

Only 24 hours after the game at Asiago, the spusu Vienna Capitals are challenged at the HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie. Due to a 2:3 defeat in Salzburg, the Tyroleans lost the lead in the standings to Bolzano on Tuesday. Their gap to the South Tyroleans is now one point. The two season duels between the Sharks and the Capitals so far brought numerous goals. Both times the HCI prevailed. In Vienna with 4:3, at home they were even victorious with 9:3. Until twelve minutes before the end of the game, the score was still tied 3:3, before the Tyroleans scored six goals in the last twelve minutes of the game. Both league top scorers Brady Shaw (56 points) and Adam Helewka (55 points) got on the scoresheet.

Thanks to a 3:1 win at the EC-KAC, Hydro Fehérvár is back in the fight for the Top-6. As eighth in the standings, they are only two points behind a direct playoff spot. HK SZ Olimpija were last in action in the ICE on January 8th, conceding their third defeat in a row. Last week, the team from Ljubljana defended its title in the Slovenian championship against Jesenice. As twelfth in the table, the Dragons are currently eight points behind the tenth place. However, they have played four games less than Pustertal. So far this season, the duel between Fehérvár and Olimpija has taken place twice. In both duels the Slovenians won narrowly (4:3/OT & 3:2). Overall, however, the Hungarians lead in the H2H with 4:2.

The EC-KAC recently slid into a new low, could not win any of the past four games and is currently seventh in the table and therefore one place and point outside the direct playoff places. With the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg, the Klagenfurt team will face the last team in the table on Friday. In the win2day ICE Hockey League, however, the Vorarlberg team prevailed in both previous duels (3:1 & 2:1). With three wins from the past five games, the Pioneers, who are eleven points behind the tenth place, have also recently been getting better and better. The team from Feldkirch won the last two games at home. The KAC conceded two defeats in the last two away games.

The top match of the 42nd round will be played by the HC Pustertal Wölfe and the new league leader HCB Südtirol Alperia. In the eighth South Tyrolean derby in the win2day ICE Hockey League, tenth-placed HC Pustertal urgently needs points in the fight for the pre-playoffs. Currently they are three points ahead of Asiago, but the Italians have played three games less than the team from Bruneck. Only on Tuesday they lost in the direct comparison with 1:2. It was the fourth defeat for the Wolves from the past six games. Bolzano, on the other hand, lost in only one of the past ten games. In the H2Hwith Pustertal, they have won all three previous season duels with at least two goals difference. Overall, the Foxes lead the H2H in the ICE Hockey League by a narrow margin of 4:3. On Bolzano´s side, numerous players are currently in particularly good form. But Dustin Gazley has to be singled out. The US American has scored in ten of the past twelve games. With 38 points, the 34-year-old already has seven more points than in the Regular Season of last season.
