Caps and Fehervar make signings, Innsbruck extends with captain

Fehervar AV19 signed 29-year-old Canadian forward Geoff Walker who produced nearly two points per game in last seasons Sky Alps Hockey League. With Jérôme Samson UPC Vienna Capitals have signed their first new player for the upcoming 2017-18 campaign. The 29-year-old Canadian forward, who also played in NHL, comes from Germany to the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga champion. In addition, HC TWK Innsbruck announced contract extension with captain Tyler Spurgeon.

Fehervar AV19 have added Geoff Walker to their team. The 29-year-old played most time of his career in American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League before going th Europe for the first time last season. He joined Fassa Falcons in newly-found Sky Alps Hockey League, producing 56 points (21G, 35A) in 33 games. Despite having a good run personally, the falcons were out of palyoff reach early and the winger ended his season with Sheffield Steelers. „This is the league I've wanted to play in and after talking with the coach Benoit I felt this really was gonna be a good fit and that they want to build a team to be competitive every game and start winning so that's something I'd love to be a part of. I've talked to some guys who played there before and they said the city is good and that the fans are awesome there so it's always nice to play in front of fans like that, really looking forward to getting over there and getting started. I'm a bigger forward who likes to play physical and excels on the power play hopefully I'll be able to come in work hard and put numbers up.“Benoit Laporte: „Geoff Walker is a big boy, he is very strong with the puck and has a scoring touch, and besides, a very good attitude. He wants to win and show his level in a big league. He will bring toughness to our team.“
 
Caps sign Jérôme Samson
Jérôme Samson played 480 AHL games between 2007 and 2015, scoring 171 goals and 193 assists. He also played for Caroline Hurricanes, gained nine points (2G, 7A) in 46 NHL games. In the 2011-12 campaign he made his first goal in "the show" with Andreas Nödl being on his team. Early 2015 he came to Europe for the first time, palying two months for Swiss side EHC Biel-Bienne in NLA. Then he transferred to EHC Red Bull Munich where he became champion straightaway. Last season he added another year in DEL with Schwenningen. "He gives us more experience and will help us with his technical skills. He can play center or winger, that gives us more possibilities. I'm happy that Jérôme decided to come to Vienna" reports head coach Serge Aubin.
 
Spurgeon stays with Innsbruck
HC TWK Innsbruck announced contract extension with captain Tyler Spurgeon. The 31-year-old Canadian heads into his third season with shark. Last campaign he earned 45 points (15G, 30A). "We want to build on last year, it whetted our appetite. I'm looking forward to next season".
