Caps keep streak alive, Salzburg earns blowout win

In Sunday's five Erste Bank Eishockey Liga games EC Red Bull Salzburg earned a 9:0 blowout win. Leader Vienna Capitals extended their winning streak, EC-KAC are new second-placed team thanks to a shutout. While Moser Medical Graz99ers were successful on the road, Liwest Black Wings Linz gained a first home win.

Medvescak started the game better, with more action and took the lead in the 8th minute when Sauve on the assist from Mauldin. But before the end of the first period Graz were able to level the score with a goal from Loney on the assist from Yellow Horn. Five minutes into the second period and the visitors grabbed the lead. It was Garbowsky who scored after a nifty pass from Zusevics. The visitors were more active in the second period but couldn't capitalize to take a bigger lead heading into the third period. The 99ers extended their lead to two goals in the 47th minute when Hamilton scored what proved to be the game winner and gave the visitors a pretty comfortable lead. The Bears struck back in the 54th minute when Armstrong capitalized on a powerplay after two straight penalties by the 99ers. At 59:25 Caito scored on the empty net to mark the final score 4:2, a comfortable win for the visitors.

The Caps took over control right from the beginning but Villach scored first. In the 6th minute Corey Trivino opened the scoring and just 101 seconds later Pollastrone doubled the score off a Trivino pass on power play. The hosts were successful with a man advantage when Rafael Rotter lit the lamp to reduce the deficit. Things changed in the second when Villach came out harder but Vienna scored. A deflection from Peter Schneider tied the game and Chris DeSousa even turned the game around. The hosts pressed for a decision and after 47 minutes Schneider added his second of the night. Despite Villach pulling one back by MacGregor Sharp, the Caps kept their winning streak alive.

Sunday's top game took place in Dornbirn with both teams playing dolid defensively. It took almost 18 minutes until former Dornbirn player Johannes Bischofberger broke the spell. The game did not really change in the middle frame with the hosts creating just a few chances. In the third Dornbirn came close to tie it but David Madlener, another former DEC player kept a clean sheet. After Bischofberger failed to score a second, it was Marcel Witting (54') who doubled the score with his first ever EBEL goal. With five minutes to go Nick Petersen rounded off the scoring.

EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz – HC Orli Znojmo 3:1 (1:1, 0:0, 2:0)

The game in Linz was not even two minutes old when Anthony Luciani opened the scoring for Znojmo. Linz took some penalties but the guests could not capitalize. The hosts did better on power play with Bracken Kearns (14') tying the game. In the second both teams did well defensively with both goalies keeping a clean sheet. Linz came out hard for the third and missed some good chances early. With ten minutes Corey Locke scored the game winner with a deflection. The Black Wings forward even added a second for a 3:1 home win.

EC Red Bull Salzburg – Fehérvár AV 19 9:0 (3:0, 4:0, 2:0)

It was all Salzburg in their home game against Fehervar. After nine minutes Regner opened the scoring with a tap-in. Soon later Heinrich added a second and Gazley made it 3:0 even before the first intermission. After Heinrich's second of the game, it was Wappis who scored his first ever EBEL goal. At the halfway point of the game VandeVelde made it 6:0 and captain Thomas Raffl lit the lamp for a 7th time. Gyenes replaced Carruth between the Fehervar pipes for the third. In the final two minutes the new goalie conceded two goals against. While Rauchenwald scored his first, Heinrich even celebrated a hat trick.
