Caps started CHL with one point at Grodno

The Champions Hockey League started for the UPC Vienna Capitals on Friday with a 4:5-defeat after Overtime at HK Neman Grodno. EC Red Bull Salzburg lost against Finish Champion Tappara Tampere at home 1:6. Besides EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz, EC VSV and HCB Südtirol Alperia got wins in friendly games, while Fehervar AV19 and Dornbirn Bulldogs lost.

Caps took one point away from Grodno
The Champions Hockey League started for the UPC Vienna Capitals with a 4:5-defeat after Overtime at Neman Grodno. The Champion from Belarus took the lead already after a few seconds in a Power Play. The Caps on the other side needed some time to find better into the game, but then turned the score with two goals from MacGregor Sharp and Jerry Pollastrone within just 14 seconds. In period 2 Grodno equalized in a Power Play. Vienna took the lead again just 16 seconds later! In the final minutes of the second period the Caps survived a 3-on-5-situation without getting another goal. In the last period Grodno turned the game thanks goals from Artyom Levsha, he beat Lamoureux with a shot from the distance and Sergei Malyavko. But the Austrians did not give up and finally Ryan McKiernan made the 4:4 with a big shot from the blue line. In the Overtime Alexander Zhidkikh fixed the win for the Champion from Belarus.
 
Tappara Tampere was too strong for the Red Bulls
EC Red Bull Salzburg started good into their first Champions Hockey League game this season against Tappara Tampere. Already in minute 5 Ryan Duncan scored the 1:0 after a great pass from Brant Harris. But Tappara turned the game thanks goals from Peltola in a shorthanded situation, Jasu and Karjalainen in a Powerplay. The Red Bulls on the other side could not take advantage from their chances anymore. The second period belong then to the Fins, who extended their lead to 5:1. In the end of the second period the Mozart Citizens also had two good chances from Matt Generous and Captain Matthias Trattnig, but they could not score. Also in the last 20 minutes Tappara was the chief on the ice and had no problems to get a clear 6:1-win at EC Red Bull Salzburg.
 
Eagles stayed unbeaten at home
EC VSV won also their second home-game in this PreSeason against SC Riessersee. The Germans took advantage from a Power Play to score the lead in minute 3.  Villach answered with a Power Play goal from Beach and a solo from Glenn – 2:1. Seconds before the period the Germans equalized. In period 2 goalie David Kickert first stopped a Penaltyshot from Lubor Dibelka. In minute 33 Beach then scored the lead again for Villach. But again the Germans equalized. The last period then belong to the Eagles, who made three goals and got a clear 6:3-win.
 
Bulldogs could not score
The Dornbirn Bulldogs lost at ERC Ingolstadt 0:2. DEC-goalie Ronan Quemener made a good job and was not to beat for over 30 minutes. In period 2 the Bulldogs also had good combinations, but they failed to take advantage from their chances. The decision came in minute 33: Within 19 seconds the DEL-club scored twice and took a 2:0-lead. In an intense game then no more goals were scored.
 
Black Wings were on Fire
The EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz were on Fire in their friendly game at Augsburg: The Upper Austrians took a quick 2:0-lead. Also after the re-start the Austrians quickly made the 3:1. Then the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga-club missed good chances for more goals and this was punished by the Panthers: The DEL-club could equalize thanks two goals in a row. The Upper Austrians now also received several penalties and this made it more difficult for them. But then the Black Wings run away thanks goals from Philipp Lukas, Corey Locke and Hofer from 3:3 to 6:3. Finally Linz won at Augsburg 8:4.
 
Fehervar AV 19 missed too many chances
Fehervar lost its third consecutive game in the preaseason, this time against last year’s Slovak Extraliga semifinalst Nitra. Although the Devils started off better, and had a powerplay, they didn’t manage to take the lead. In the middle of the period, two Fehervar players had to sit in the penalty box and the guests used the opportunity, the former Fehervar player Blackwater scored. In the rest of the period, the Hungarians had many chances to score but they missed. The game went on in front of the Nitra net in the second period, in which the home team had chance after chance but the resutl remained 0-1. The third period started with a balanced game with less serious chances on both sides. Even though the guests had poweplay opportunities, Rajna saved all shots. 2 minutes before the end of the game, Luttinen tied the game with a shot from the side. The teams couldn’t decidet he game in the overtime either, and finally, the guests sscored one penalty while Fehervar missed all.
 
Next Shut-out-win for Bozen
HCB Südtirol Alperia won also their second friendly game at Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey 1935 3:0. The Foxes took a 2:0-lead already in period 1. And goalie Marcel Melichercik, who was not to beat already in the first game at Sterzing, once again celebrated a Shutout. The goals were scored by  Monardo (2x) and Angelidis.
