Caps win marathon after 104 minutes, also Foxes and KAC capture wins

After 104 minutes the UPC Vienna Capitals increased the lead in the series to 2:0. Also The EC-KAC created a 2:0 lead after winning at Znojmo. The Foxes are the first team, which managed to tie the playoff series.

Caps won marathon after 104 minutes
It was a memorable night of Ice hockey. Not only that the decision came after 104 minutes – it was the second longest game in history – because of broken plate the game ended after midnight. Six seconds after the start the game was interrupted for 45 minutes because of a broken plate. The Caps had the better restart – Tessier succeeded with the early goal after power play. But the sharks fought back. Andrew Clark scored the first goal for Innsbruck after nine minutes and Mario Lamoureux won the duel against his brother twice in first period. He created a 3:1 lead. In the second period both teams delivered a tough playoff battle. Despite of good chances, there were no goals in this period. In the putative final period both team fought for every centimeter with great passion. During a double powerplay Holzapfel tied the game. After that both teams had good moments, but no more scores in regular time. Also in overtime both teams created good chances with a slight advantage for the hosts. In the second overtime the caps took control, but didn’t manage to score as well. In the third overtime, it was Taylor Vause who brought the decision. After 104 minutes he scored for the win and the 2:0 lead in the series.
 
 
Hundertpfund scores for second win of KAC 
After early pressure by the visiting team, Znojmo took an early lead thanks to Libor Sulak, shooting high from the blue line through screen and scoring high over the shoulder of Duba. Znojmo had more chances in early minutes, Sulak being denied on a breakaway by Tomas Duba. But Klagenfurt slowly clawed back into the game and created chances. In the 13th minute Stefan Geier succeeded with a shot from the blue line for the tie. Just shortly afterwards, Thomas Hundertpfund took advantage of a quick pass from the back boards and turned the score over with a quick one-timer. And KAC had more chances in the opening period, only missing by inches a couple of times. The game continued in competitive fashion after the break, Znojmo pushed for the second goal, KAC being very active on breakthroughs. Sulak scored with a lucky deflection late in the period, the puck found the way over Duba into the net. The decisive goal was scored after the break, just two minutes into the third period when Thomas Hundertpfund found space on the right wing, skated into the slot and fired his wristshot to pass Schwarz. Znojmo pushed forward in search for a third goal, but could‘nt create a longer period of pressure, nor any significant chances to convert. KAC comes back home with a win and 2-0 lead in the series.

Foxes tie series
Game number two in the “everlasting” series between HCB Südtirol Alperia and LIWEST Black Wings Linz. Both teams had some absences: The foxes played without Markus Gander, Nick Palmiei and Joachim Ramoser, and Linz couldn’t count on Pichè because of his suspension and Schofield who is injured as well. The spectators saw an intense first period with many chances. Already after three minutes the foxes had the first big chances first Vallerand and then Seymour missed the target. In the sixths minute it was Ryan Glenn who succeeded with the first goal of the night. The Blak Wings struggled with a couple of penalties. After 12 minutes Lebler had the first big chance for Linz, ut Melicherik won the duel. On the other side Yogan didn’t succeed with his opportunity for the 2:0. At the beginning of the second period Ouzas proofed his reactions against Yogan twice. In the first 10 minutes Bozen was the controlling team, but then Linz shifted one gear up,but didn’t manage to score as well. The final period was full of excitement At the beginning Oberkofler tied the game for the Black Wings. The foxes struggled a bit at this time, but six minutes later Yogan surprised Ouzas and recaptured the lead. In the final minute Sparks brought the decision with an empty net goal. The foxes tied the series.
