CHL defeats for VSV and Olimpija

In the Champions Hockey League a strongly decimated EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV lost in Krakow with 2:4. There was nothing to get for the second win2day ICE Hockey League representative this evening. The HK SZ Olimpija lost in Wolfsburg with 2:7. In the Preseason the HCB Südtirol Alperia conceded in the final of the Südtirol Summer Classic a 2:5 defeat against the Düsseldorfer EG. On the other hand, the spusu Vienna Capitals, EC-KAC and HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie celebrated victories.

VSV does well in Krakow
A strongly decimated EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV did well in Krakow, but lost in the second game of the Champions Hockey League. A total of eight players were not available for the VSV in the 2:4 in Poland, due to illness or injury. The home side had the better start and took the lead in the ninth minute of the game. Blaz Tomazevic, however, equalized for the VSV just over a minute and a half later in the power play. The middle period was similar, with Krakow again taking the lead, but again Villach equalized in the power play. This time it was new signing Nicolas Mattinen who scored. The score remained 2:2 going into the final period, in which the home side again took the lead. This time, however, the Eagles did not find the right answer and the Poles put the lid on it with an empty-net goal one minute before the end of the game. While Krakow celebrated their first win in the second game and are in third place in the Group F, Villach are still without a point in fourth place.

Ljubljana without a chance in Wolfsburg
The HK SZ Olimpija, on the other hand, had no chance at all against the Grizzlies Wolfsburg. The Slovenians conceded a 2:7 defeat in their second CHL game in history. They were already down 0:2 after seven and a half minutes. Shortly before the end of the first period, the Germans even increased to 3:0. In the second period, Ljubljana then also scored. Rok Kapel scored in the 25th minute to make it 1:3 from the visitors' point of view. Wolfsburg took the game back into their own hands and went up 4:1 in the second period and even 7:1 with three quick goals in the final period. Gregor Koblar (55.) scored the second goal for the ICE representative. While Wolfsburg celebrated its first win in the second game and moved up to second place in the Group B standings, Ljubljana is still at the bottom of the table without a point.

Bolzano loses final at Südtirol Summer Classic
The HCB Südtirol Alperia was defeated by the Düsseldorfer EG with 2:5 in the final of the Südtirol Summer Classic. In front of a little more than 1500 fans in the Sparkasse Arena, the guests already took a 1:0 lead in the third minute of the game. Also three minutes were played in the second period, before Düsseldorf increased to 2:0. The fans of Bolzano were allowed to get some hope in the 32nd minute, when Gazley reduced the score to 1:2. It was again Gazley who scored the second goal for the South Tyroleans in the 57th minute. At this point it was the 2:4 from Bolzano's point of view. The final goal was scored by the visitors just a few seconds before the end of the game. In the third-place game, Plzeň beat Ambrì Piotta 3:2 in the shootout.

Capitals defeat Black Wings at BMW Cup
The spusu Vienna Capitals secured the third place at the 2022 BMW Cup. In Nürnberg, Dave Barr's team won an intra-league duel against the Steinbach Black Wings Linz with 3:2 after overtime. Haga put the Upper Austrians in front (18.), Kragl even increased to 2:0 in the middle period (31.). Afterwards, however, the Caps turned up the heat: After goals from Hartl (32.) and Sheppard (39.), it went into the final period with a 2:2. No goals were scored in this, so the winner had to be decided in the five-minute overtime. There, Capitals new signing Max Zimmer ensured the victory for the Viennese after a pass from James Sheppard.

Wins for Klagenfurt and Innsbruck
The EC-KAC secured its third win in the fifth preseason game. The Klagenfurt team won 6:2 against the Heilbronner Falken from the DEL2. The HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie celebrated a 4:2 home win against league newcomer Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. The KAC was the dominant team from the beginning. After goals from Lessio and Bischofberger, it went into the first period break with a 2:0 lead. In the second period, the KAC added three goals before Fraser increased the lead to 6:0 with his second goal of the evening at the beginning of the final period. In the following, the home side scored two times and thus managed to improve the result.

In the game between Innsbruck and Asiago, the guests took the lead through Marchetti in the 14th minute. In the second period, the home side dominated from the start and went into the dressing room with a 4:2 lead after goals from Helewka, Leavens, Peeters and captain Lattner. Asiago had equalized in the meantime after the Sharks took a 2:1 lead. No further goals were scored in the final period.
