In the fifth game of the Champions Hockey League Hydro Fehérvár AV19 got the first win. The current runner-up of win2day ICE Hockey League won 4:2 at GKS Katowice. The EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV, on the other hand, suffered a narrow 1:3 defeat against the Straubing Tigers, which means that the "Eagles" no longer have the chance of reaching the Round of 16. Tomorrow, Wednesday, with Salzburg and Olimpija the remaining two ICE representatives are in CHL action.

The EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV needed a win at home against the Straubing Tigers to still have a chance to reach the Round of 16. At the beginning, many things pointed to the necessary success. Robert Sabolic gave the Eagles the lead in the 13th minute in front of 2359 spectators. This lasted until the 34th minute, before the guests from Germany managed the equalizer. In the 45th minute, Straubing was able to turn the game around completely and finally decide the game with an empty-net goal 18 seconds before the end of the game.

First victory for Fehérvár
The 4:2 win at GKS Katowice was the first Champions Hockey League win in history for current runner-up Hydro Fehérvár AV19. With three points, the Hungarians are now ahead of the Poles in third place in Group D. However, advancing to the Round of 16 is no longer possible before the sixth and final matchday. Fehérvár started the game strongly and took the lead in the eighth minute through Janos Hari. The 30-year-old also scored the final goal of the night via an empty-net with four seconds remaining. After further goals from Brett Findlay and Akos Mihaly, Fehérvár led 3:0 before the Poles came back to 2:3 by the end of the second period. However, they failed to score again in the final period. The two teams will meet again next Wednesday, October 12, to conclude the group stage.
