KAC comeback falls short
EC-KAC endured a difficult start against KooKoo Kouvola, as the Finnish visitors struck four times within seven minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead into the first intermission.

Klagenfurt responded strongly in the middle frame. Thimo Nickl and Nicholas Petersen scored within three minutes of each other to cut the deficit to 4-2. KAC then pulled within one early in the third period, but just 18 seconds later Miska Siikonen netted his second of the night to restore KooKoo’s two-goal cushion. Despite a late push from the hosts, the Finnish side held on for a 5-3 victory, handing KAC their fourth consecutive CHL defeat.

Graz99ers fall 3-1 to SaiPa
The Moser Medical Graz99ers also came up short against Finnish opposition. The Styrians put in a hard-working performance against SaiPa Lappeenranta but eventually suffered a 3-1 defeat. 21-year-old cooperation player Erik Wittwer made his debut for the 99ers.

Saku Salminen opened the scoring for SaiPa in the ninth minute before Graz captain Paul Stapelfeldt received a game misconduct following a kneeing penalty. Naukkarinen and Petr Fridrich extended the visitors’ lead to 3-0 in the second period. Nick Swaney got Graz on the board early in the third, but despite battling until the final buzzer, the 99ers were unable to close the gap any further.
