Clear CHL defeats for Innsbruck and Bolzano

On the second matchday of the Champions Hockey League, the HC TIWAG Innsbruck and the HCB Südtirol Alperia suffered clear defeats. The Tyrolean team, which started the CHL adventure with a surprising home win against the Swiss champion Genève-Servette HC, was clearly defeated 1:6 at the current runner-up of Switzerland, EHC Biel-Bienne. Bolzano lost against Ilves Tampere, the third of the Finnish championship, also clearly with 1:7. Tomorrow Sunday at 16:30 the third win2day ICE Hockey League representative, EC Red Bull Salzburg, is challenged by the Adler Mannheim.

Innsbruck without a chance against Biel-Bienne
For the HC TIWAG Innsbruck it was the first defeat in the second Champions Hockey League game in history. After the surprising 5:2 home victory against the Swiss champions Genève-Servette HC, the Tyrolean team was defeated by the current runner-up of Switzerland, the EHC Biel-Bienne with 1:6. Biel-Bienne, which already started the CHL with a 6:2 away win at La Chaux-de-Fons, had a perfect start and was already leading 3:0 after the first period. In the second period they even went up to 5:0 before Innsbruck scored the first goal through Corey Mackin three seconds before the end of the period. In the third period, the home side from Switzerland got on the scoreboard again after ten minutes in the powerplay. It was their third powerplay goal of the evening. Innsbruck continues in the CHL on Thursday, September 7 at 19:30 with a home game against Belfast (GBR).

Bolzano with clear home defeat
Also without a chance was the HCB Südtirol Alperia, who lost to the current third of the Finnish Liiga Ilves Tampere with 1:7. For the runner-up of the win2day ICE Hockey League it was the second defeat in the second game. Already after six and a half minutes the guests led 3:0. A few minutes before the end of the first period there were numerous penalties on both sides. Bolzano took advantage of this and reduced the score to 1:3 through Christian Thomas three minutes before the end of the period. In the second period, the HCB had to play six times in a shorthanded situation. In four shorthanded situations they also conceded a goal, so after 40 minutes it was 1:7 from the point of view of the hosts from South Tyrol, which was also the final score. Next opponent in the CHL for the Foxes will be on Thursday, September 7 at 19:45 the Swiss champions Genève-Servette HC.
