Release from 19.02.2022
Starting the second half of the Alps Hockey League Master Round, S.G. Cortina Hafro celebrated a 4-3 road win at EHC Lustenau thanks to a dominant first and pushed them out of the top-4, while the Rittern Buam remain in second place, having won their 20th AHL duel with the Falcons 5-1 in Fassa.
In Qualification Round A, Wallteri Lehtonen ensured an important road win for his EC Bregenzerwald with a 6-point game (3G|3A) and the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan are also clearly on course for the pre-playoffs thanks to a brace of Markus Gander in their home win over Klagenfurt.
In Qualification Round B, HC Gherdeina valgardena.it extended its top position with its fifth win in the intermediate round. New second is BEMER VEU Feldkirch, which won the chasing duel against Steel Wings Linz. In the 1-0 home win after overtime for EK Die Zeller Eisbären, Henrik Neubauer hit the game-winner in his second game after an injury layoff of almost four months.
S.G. Cortina Hafro temporarily sits on a quarterfinal spot in the Alps Hockey League after the start of the second half of intermediate round, as the Italians won 4:3 at EHC Lustenau and pushed the Vorarlberg team, which is level on points, to fifth place. For Cortina it was the third win in a row. A brilliant first with goals from Marco Sanna and Riccardo Lacedelli in the first 2.5 minutes and a goal from Michael Zanatta 26 seconds left laid the foundation for the Ampezzani's first ever win in Lustenau after regulation in league history. The Austrians, which were missing seven key players fought their way back into the game, but could not make up for the initial deficit.
Meanwhile, the Rittner Buam secured their second place in the standings with a 5-1 win over the SHC Fassa Falcons, their third win in the Master Round. Zach Osburn recorded a brace for the South Tyroleans. Ritten thus also won the 20th internal league duel with Fassa, which also had to admit defeat in the sixth game of the Master Round.
Bregenzerwald and Broncos take important wins in race for top-3
In the race for the top-3 in Qualification Round A, and participation in the Pre-Playoffs, the chasing duo of this time match-free leader Red Bull Hockey Juniors landed important victories, as EC Bregenzerwald won 6-2 at EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, showed efficient with three powerplay goals especially in numerical superiority (3/6). Waltteri Lehtonen shone with six points, scoring a hat trick.
Third-place Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan beat EC-KAC Future Team 3-1, with Markus Gander's early brace mainly responsible for the South Tyroleans scoring in their fourth consecutive game. Klagenfurt and Kitzbühel are already six and eight points behind the third-placed "Broncos" with only three games left.
Feldkrich becomes first chaser of leader Gherdeina
Qualification Round B leader HC Gherdeina valgardena.it promptly corrected its slip-up from Thursday with a narrow defeat in Feldkirch and claimed a 4-1 home win against the Vienna Capitals Silver. Michael Sullmann Pilser contributed a hat trick to the fifth intermediate round win. For him it was the second multiple-goal game this season.
The new chaser of the leading South Tyrolean team is BEMER VEU Feldkirch, which won 5:3 at home against Steel Wings Linz and took revenge for the clear 2:8 defeat in the first leg of the intermediate round. First, the Vorarlberg team gave away their 1-0 lead in the first 4.5 minutes of the second period, before Yannik Lebenda (28.) and Dyan Stanley (29.) turned the game around within one minute. Steven Birnstill doubled the lead late with a penalty and with that the resistance of the guests, who slipped to third place, was broken.
EK Die Zeller Eisbären stayed within striking distance of the pre-playoff places with a 1-0 home win after overtime over HC Meran/o Pircher, still in fourth place. Henrik Neubauer scored the OT game-winner for Salzburg in his second game back from an almost four-month injury layoff. It was his eleventh goal of the season.
