Deciding game between Ritten and Merano on Saturday

The quarter-finals of the Alps Hockey League will see a deciding game between defending champions Rittner Buam SkyAlps and HC Meran/o Pircher after the “Buam” failed to win the series after already leading 3:1 in the meantime. Game seven will take place on Saturday at 18:00 in the Ritten Arena.

On Thursday, Merano won 2:0 in front of its home crowd, forcing a deciding game for a place in the semi-finals. This is the sixth game seven in the Alps Hockey League - read more here. While Ritten has already had to play a game seven twice, this is Merano's first deciding game in the league. This is overall the second time the “Eagles” have reached the quarter-finals. Last season, they lost 1:4 in the series against Cortina.

Everything initially pointed to an early exit against Ritten as well. The defending champions led the series 3:1 in the meantime before Merano celebrated a 2:1/OT away win, followed by a 2:0 home victory. Overall, the “Buam” were only able to win the opening game 3:0 in front of their home crowd. In the current season, the two teams have already faced each other eleven times in all competitions, seven times with the better end for Ritten.
