Defeats for Austria and Italy

Setback for Austria at the IIHF Worlds in Finland. Head Coach Roger Bader's team lost 3:5 to Norway on Wednesday and slipped down to seventh place in the standings. Italy also suffered a bitter defeat, losing 1:2-OT to France. Until 66 seconds before the end of the game, the "Azzurri", who conceded their fourth defeat in their fourth game, were still leading 1:0.

Despite a perfect start against Norway, Austria suffered its third defeat in the fourth game at the World Championships in Finland. Dominique Heinrich put the red-white-red selection in the lead in the seventh minute in the power play. In the end, Austria would score all three goals in the power play. Just after Team AUT took the 1:0 lead, Norway managed to equalize in a shorthanded situation. With the score of 1:1 the first period ended.

In the middle period, Norway had perfect start. Already after 55 seconds Andreas Martinsen put his team in the lead. This time it was Austria that scored the equalizer. Lukas Haudum equalized in the 27th minute to make it 2:2. Again only four minutes later Norway took the lead again.

In the final period, Austria conceded numerous penalties at the beginning. Among other things, Philipp Wimmer of champion Salzburg took a match penalty for an illegal check to the head. Shortly afterwards Norway scored to make it 4:2. Four minutes before the end of the game, Peter Schneider was able to bring Austria back to 3:4, but the equalizer was not achieved despite numerous chances. Instead, NOR scored an empty net just before the end of the game to score the 5:3. In the standings, Austria slipped back to seventh place. Norway is in fourth place.



Loss for Italy against France

Italy, the second ICE nation, was also defeated. They were leading 1:0 against France until 66 seconds before the end of the game, to lose 1:2-OT in the end. In the fourth World Cup game, it was the first point for Italy, which is seventh in Group A. In the 15th minute of the match Luca Frigo of Bolzano put the "Azzurri" in the lead. Andreas Bernard in the goal of the Italians was close to a shutout before Sacha Treille managed to equalize for France just before the end of the game. In the overtime it was finally Hugo Gallet who scored the French 2:1-OT victory.
