The Capital club strengthens its defense for the upcoming 2022/23 season with Layne Viveiros and Mark Auk. Viveiros is currently the third Austrian defender in the Caps' squad alongside Lukas Piff and Niklas Würschl, while for Auk Vienna will be the third stop in Europe after Rauma (Finland) and Odense (Denmark).

After his junior career with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders from the USHL (highest junior league in the USA), Mark Auk's further career led him back to his home state, Michigan, where he played for the University of Michigan Tech in the NCAA for four years. However, the 27-year-old Auk has yet to receive his diploma, as he has subsequently joined the Iowa Wild's professional team (American Hockey League) and now uses his free time during each offseason to pursue his degree in exercise science. The 2018/19 season saw Auk move to Europe for the first time, specifically Finland, where he joined Lukko Rauma in the Finnish SM League.

Auk spent the next two seasons in the East Coast Hockey League with Toledo Walleye, Rapid City Rush and Orlando Solar Bears before heading to Denmark. There, he immediately became the highest scoring defenseman for the Odense Bulldogs last season. Together with his girlfriend and his dog, Auk is now moving on to the Austrian capital.
