More than half of the games in the regular season of Alps Hockey League have been completed. The HC Pustertal Wolves stayes on the top-position with a nearly flawless performance so far. While winning 20 games, the South Tyroleans had to give up only once. The reason is its superior defensive performance: 26 goals against and seven shutouts – four of them in the last five games – underline Pustertal’s supremacy in the league. Goalkeeper Colin Furlong is the main contributor of seven shutouts out of 21 games.

To date, there have been 23 shutouts in the current Alps Hockey League season. Colin Furlong was responsible for about 30% of all games without a goal against. The 25-year old Canadian is currently playing his first season in Europe, shaping the South Tyrolean game like no other. Up-to-date he did not receive a goal for 191 minutes and 23 seconds. The sympathetic foreign player does not focus on his own performance: “It feels great to be successful. We have a perfectly coordinated team. Everyone, including me, benefits from this team structure. Doing bits and bobs right and our great work ethic gave as a boost in the first half of the season.” In addition, the netminder sees also the balance in Pustertal’s roster as a big factor of success: “We are heavily staffed in all four lines and can therefore use our intensity and our style of play for 60 minutes.”

Despite the clear lead in standings, Furlong warns of the upcoming games: “The league has a good quality and therefore you can never take a night off. The teams ranked second to twelfth are always a dangerous opponent.”
