Due to numerous postponements: Change to points average system

Short text 356 CharactersPlain text

In the past weeks, numerous games of the Alps Hockey League had to be postponed indefinitely due to medical precautions. Since it can no longer be guaranteed that all 17 teams will be able to complete their full program by the end of the basic round, on Sunday, January 22nd, the standings will be changed to the point average system with immediate effect.

The BOG of the Alps Hockey League, consisting of representatives of all three associations, has decided to change the standings of the basic round to the point average system, which has proven itself in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League and DEL, among others. This approach has proven to be the fairest solution for all teams after extensive consultation.

This step became necessary because eleven games already had to be postponed indefinitely due to medical precautions, and in the already very tight schedule there is hardly any possibility to make up all games before the end of the basic round (January 22nd).

The point average system in the overview:
As before, a win in the basic round will be counted with three points for the winner, a drawn game with one point for both teams. The winner in overtime or in the penalty shootout will receive an additional point.

The ranking in the basic round is now based on the point average (quotient of points earned and number of games played - rounded to three decimal places) instead of absolute values as before. The final ranking after the end of the basic round will be calculated as before according to the Gamebook Fundamental Rules Part II League Play § 3 (4), (5).

In the first step the prerequisite for a team to be ranked for the standing is that at least 70% of the scheduled games in the regular season have been played. In the next step, all teams that have played less than 70% of the matches are ranked to the bottom of the table.

If in Phase 2 (Master- & Qualification Round) further games do not take place- and cannot be made up, the above mentioned rule will also apply.

The basic rules / implementing regulations and supplements (Covid-19 Appendix...) that have been valid for the Alps Hockey League up to now will remain in full force. Should additions and/or changes be necessary due to the present decision, these will be considered meritoriously.
