The second-placed team in the regular season is guaranteed home ice all the way to the semi-finals and a ticket to the 2024/25 Champions Hockey League season. EC Red Bull Salzburg and Hydro Fehérvár AV19 will face off on Tuesday in a crucial duel for this important second place. The Hungarians ended their 14-game losing streak against Salzburg just two weeks ago. Prior to the 4-2 win on January 12, Fehérvár had not won a meeting with the Red Bulls since February 20, 2022. During that period, Salzburg managed a goal difference of 50:20 against the Red Devils, who failed to score more than one goal in eleven of the 14 encounters. However, the spell has now been broken and Fehérvár are currently the better-placed team. With a lead of two points, the Hungarians are in pole position for second place in the basic round. A win on Tuesday would see Fehérvár take a big step towards home ice until a possible semi-final and a Champions Hockey League ticket for the 2024/25 season. Fehérvár was already represented in the European top flight for the first time in the 2022/23 season. The Red Bulls, on the other hand, have only missed out on a CHL starting place once - in the 2019/20 season.

Hydro Fehérvár AV19 now had a 10-day break in the win2day ICE Hockey League and secured the Hungarian Cup title at the weekend. EC Red Bull Salzburg ended a three-game losing streak with a win on Sunday against EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV.
