On the last Champions Hockey League gameday of the group stage, the EC-KAC fights for reaching the knockout stage for the first time in franchise history. After losing to the coming opponent EHC Biel-Bienne (CH) past week 3:6, in the return-leg the “Rotjacken” either need a win with at least five goals difference or more points as Tappara Tampere (FIN) gains against Frisk Asker (NOR) on Wednesday. In group F the spusu Vienna Capitals face GKS Tychy (POL) in the game for third place after the group stage, with any chance for being promoted to the last sixteen.

EC-KAC needs points in any case
To reach the knockout stage in Champions Hockey League, the EC-KAC needs points in any case on the last gameday of the group stage. After losing to EHC Biel-Bienne past week 3:6, Erste Bank Eishockey Liga’s reigning champion dropped to third place in group A. To get promoted to the last sixteen the “Rotjacken” needs a win by five goals or more in Tuesday’s return-game against the Swiss side. They could also possibly qualify with a lesser regulation win, an OT win or an OT loss, provided their point total exceeds Tappara Tampere’s, which faces Frisk Asker (NOR) on Wednesday. It would be Klagenfurt’s first promotion to knockout stage in CHL. The EC-KAC has the same roster available as last league’s gameday at Dornbirn, missing goalie Lars Haugen, Steven Strong, Macel Witting and Niki Kraus.

Martin Schumnig, defender EC-KAC: „We know that Biel-Bienne is a good team, dealing perfect with their scoring efficiency. It will be a very tough road-game with a small chance for reaching top-16. As long as we are in the race for promotion, we will fight and give our best.”

spusu Vienna Capitals for 3rd place in group F

With no further chance for reaching the knockout stage, the spusu Vienna Capitals head into their last home game in the Champions Hockey League, as they take on Polish side GKS Tychy in the game for the third place. To overtake Tychy in standings the Viennese need a home-win after regulation. With Djurgarden Stockholm (SWE) and Adler Mannheim (GER) the promoted teams meet in the other game.

Ali Wukovits, forward spusu Vienna Capitals: “It is payback time, after the loss on the road. We want to close the CHL campaign with a good game and positive feeling.”
