The EC-KAC announces the signing of forward Matt Fraser. The top scorer of the past Champions Hockey League season brings the experience of 91 NHL games to Klagenfurt. He is also well known in this, by scoring 28 goals in 57 appearances for the Dornbirn Bulldogs in 2017/18. As KAC-GM Oliver Pilloni explains: "We see Matt Fraser as a building block for our team in the coming 2021/22 season. However, because he currently has no contract, he will be coming to Klagenfurt next week: on the one hand to settle in and on the other hand so that our coaching staff can physically prepare him for the tasks ahead of him. Depending on how fast these processes proceed, he could already play in league matches for the EC-KAC in the current season, but we have primarily made this commitment with a view to the coming season. "

Matt Fraser comes from Red Deer in Alberta, Canada, a city the size of Klagenfurt, located halfway between Calgary and Edmonton. Via the WHL he made the direct leap into the AHL. At the age of 21 he made his NHL debut (for the Dallas Stars). For a total of four seasons, the tall winger commuted between the NHL and the AHL. In the world's best league, he made 91 appearances for Dallas, Boston and Edmonton. After a year at Rögle BK in Sweden overshadowed by an injury, the Canadian ventured a new beginning in Dornbirn: In the former EBEL he collected a total of 47 scorer points in 57 games for the Bulldogs 2017/18.

Fraser spent his two most recent seasons in the DEL in Augsburg, and in the past 2019/20 season he scored eight times for the Panthers in the Champions Hockey League, making him the best scorer in the entire competition. The contract between the EC-KAC and Matt Fraser runs until the end of the 2021/22 season, and the Canadian is expected to arrive in Klagenfurt next week.
