EC Red Bull Salzburg qualify for last sixteen in Champions Hockey League

The EC Red Bull Salzburg qualified for the last sixteen in Champions Hockey League. Despite suffering a 1:2-defeat after shootout at SC Bern (SUI), the Austrian side made it to the round of sixteen. Besides, champion HCB Südtirol Alperia missed his first chance to be promoted to eight final too. The Italian side lost at Poland against GKS Tychy 3:5.

The EC Red Bull Salzburg made it to the round of last sixteen. The eight ranked in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga secured the essential point on the road against SC Bern. Salzburg lost 1:2 after shootout in the end and gave the extra point to the Swiss side. Anyway, the Red Bulls have the chance to finish group G first on gameday 6. After a non-goal opening frame, Brant Harris took the lead for Salzburg less than one minute to go in the second. Jan Mursak balance the score in the 53. minute. Gaetan Haas converted the decisive penalty after a non-goal extra session.

The HCB Südtirol Alpera missed his first chance to be promoted to the last sixteen too. The champion of Erste Bank Eishockey Liga suffered a 3:5 defeat on the road against Polish side GKS Tychy. Bozen had a slightly advantage from beginning on, but they where trailing a lot because of problems on the offensive end. Bernard (15.), Insam (18.) and Crescenzi (39./sh) had to tie up the game three times for the foxes. Bozen speeded up its intensity in the third, but Tychy made the first power play goal of the game and took the lead for the fourth time. The “foxes” pressed hard to balance the score again, substituted the goalie for a sixth fielder in the last minutes and received an empty netter in the end.
