On Thursday, seven games are scheduled in the Alps Hockey League. Among others, there will be the duel between the league returnees EK Die Zeller Eisbären and the Vienna Capitals Silver. League leader S.G. Cortina Hafro will be challenged by the Red Bull Hockey Juniors. In the only game on Friday, the BEMER VEU Feldkirch and Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey meet.

Thu, 23.09.2021, 19:00: EC-KAC Future Team - HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice

The EC-KAC Future Team and HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice will start the matchday on Thursday. Both teams are tied at seven points in the standings. However, the Future Team from Klagenfurt has already played one game more than the second-placed team from Slovenia. After Jesenice conceded a surprising 1:2-SO defeat against league newcomer HC Meran/o Pircher at the start of the season, they clearly kept the upper hand in the following two games. The EC-KAC Future Team most recently lost to S.G. Cortina Hafro with 0:2. Before that, they celebrated two wins en suite. They conceded their second defeat of the season in the season opener, 1:2-SO against Kitzbühel. In the AHL, KFT and JES have faced each other 16 times so far. The Carinthians managed to win only once, on January 3rd, 2019.

Both the EHC Lustenau and the EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel have been able to score points in every game so far this season. While the EHC is in third place in the table with seven points out of possible nine, Kitzbühel follows in eleventh place with three points from two games. The Tyrolean team was recently defeated by the Rittner Buam with 1:0 after overtime. In the first game of the new season, they celebrated a narrow 2:1 win after shootout against the EC-KAC Future Team. The EHC was narrowly defeated with 3:4-OT by Red Bull Hockey Juniors in their last game. Before that, they were victorious twice. In their home arena, the Vorarlberg team lost only once in six of the past seven games.

In the duel of the league returnees, the EK Die Zeller Eisbären and the Vienna Capitals Silver will meet. Both teams last faced each other on November 30th, 2019. At that time, the „Polar Bears“ celebrated a narrow 5:4 home victory. The first meeting of both teams in the Alps Hockey League also decided Zell am See in their favor (7:3). The team from Salzburg are also favorites in Thursday's duel. From three season encounters they took four points. The Viennese are still waiting for their first points this season (2 games - 2 defeats).

The season could not have started more differently for the Rittner Buam and the HC Gherdeina valgardena.it. While the Buam have not yet lost a game and are fourth in the table with seven points, Val Gardena is last in the table with zero points and a goal difference of 2:13. Last season's quarter-finalists has already lost six games in a row. Ritten had to go into overtime in the past two games, but managed to prevail against both Kitzbühel and Meran/o. Last season, the Buam decided both direct duels in their favor. Val Gardena's only ever win over Ritten in the AHL dates back to November 2nd, 2019, with the "Buam" winning all other eleven duels.

League leader S.G. Cortina Hafro will face the Red Bull Hockey Juniors on Thursday. While the Italians have not yet lost a game this season, the team from Salzburg are eighth in the table with two wins from four games. Especially in the defensive Cortina is currently enormously strong this season, with only three goals conceded in three games. Goalkeeper Marco De Filippo has played a big part in this, saving 96.7% of all shots. Due to his strong performances in both games last week, the Italian was named Top Performer of the week.

The 16th in the table, the SHC Fassa Falcons (0 points) will face the tenth in the table, the EC Bregenzerwald (3 points) on Thursday. The "Falcons" are already waiting for a win for eight games. In the three games this season they already conceded 17 goals, including eight in the last game against Jesenice. Bregenzerwald, on the other hand, was victorious in its last match against one of the absolute title favorites, Asiago, with 4:3. Last season, the "Wälder" kept the upper hand in both direct duels (3:1 & 4:2). Overall, however, Fassa leads in the H2H with 8:6.

League newcomer HC Meran/o Pircher will be challenged by the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan on Thursday. The Broncos had a perfect season start. Both against the Vienna Capitals Silver (6:3) and against the Red Bull Hockey Juniors (4:1) they cheered about a clear victory. Meran/o, on the other hand, lost in two of their three season games. With three points they are on the twelfth place in the table. At home, the "Eagles" could not win any of their two season games. Wipptal, on the other hand, was victorious in their only away game of the season.

In the only Friday match of the Alps Hockey League, the BEMER VEU Feldkirch will face Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. The guests from Italy conceded their first loss of the season last Saturday. They are also in action against the Red Bull Hockey Juniors on Wednesday. Feldkirch is still waiting for its first full success this season. A 3:2-OT opening win in Zell am See was followed by a clear 1:4 home defeat against the EC-KAC Future Team. In the standings, this means that the VEU is currently only in 14th place. A win against Asiago would certainly be a surprise, as Feldkirch has only been successful in two of 15 duels against Asiago.
