The first puck drop of the 2019/20 Erste Bank Eishockey Liga season will be on September 13th, as reigning champion EC-KAC hosts Fehervar AV19. Fans can look forward to three more games on game day one, with the vice champion spusu Vienna Capitals facing the Moser Medical Graz99ers, HCB Südtirol Alperia welcoming the EC Red Bull Salzburg and HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie” playing against the Dornbirn Bulldogs. Two days later the first complete round with five games is scheduled including last year’s final remake between Caps and KAC.

Tightened home-away-rhythm
As a result of our fan survey, the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga put a bigger focus on the home-away rhythm. Due to arena’s non-availability games can be shifted. Because of logistic and infrastructural reasons road trips are set for the new season too.

Overall, 44 rounds resp. 220 games will be played in the first phase of the regular season. The first international break will be hold from November 4th to November 11th. Like in the past two seasons, derbies are scheduled during Christmas and new year.

New points allocation in the intermediate round
After the last round of the regular season is played on January 26th, the top-5 teams qualify for the playoffs and will compete in the following pick round (round robin) for the pick right and home advantage during the post season. With 4-2-1-0-0 the bonus points will be given in a descending order.

The teams placed six to eleven are seeded in the qualification round, where they fight for the last three remaining tickets for the playoffs. The bonus points 8-6-4-2-1-0 will be as well given in a descending order.
The ranking after 44 rounds will be again the tie breaker if two or more teams are tied after the pick or qualification round. The schedule for the intermediate round and the playoffs will be announced at the season kick-off press conference.
